Name for potential DS

Don't hold back, but try to be constructive please. If you don't like, can you explain exactly why?

Frank skinner called his baby Buzz after Buzz Aldrin. It's a very out-there name and definitely will get a lot of comments, and probably rude ones from some people too.
I thought it was a ridiculous name tbh, but I've listened to Frank mention Buzz so often on his podcast, that it sounds normal to me now.
People would eventually get used to and accept the name, but I think most people would probably think 'wtf?!' when they first hear it.
If you are very bohemian, artsy or famous then I recon it'll be easier to pull off this name.

greathat · 22/04/2019 21:28

At secondary school he'll be followed by the sound of angry bees.

ballsdeep · 22/04/2019 21:28

Buzz is one of Tom fletchers kids names. I think it's a celeb name, otherwise known as a name no one else in their right mind would name kids

catofaragon · 22/04/2019 21:48

Buzz Aldrin's name wasn't Buzz, it was a nickname. Please don't call your child Buzz. It's not a name.

Jonsnowsghost · 22/04/2019 21:54

My pony is called Buzz, suits him not a person Grin

PlatypusLeague · 22/04/2019 22:10

Here are some which sound similar-ish...

Basil, nickname Bas
Boaz, a Biblical name meaning strength or swiftness
Blaze
Jabez

stellarfox · 22/04/2019 22:38

I actually rather like it but I don’t think I’d be brave enough to use it as it’s a bit out there. It sounds like a genuine name to me because of the Fletchers’ son, but celebs do go a bit crazy with names. Other than that I think of Buzz Aldrin, even though it was just a nickname. You might get some comments but use it if you love it! Whilst it’s quite unique it’s not unheard of

MollyHuaCha · 22/04/2019 22:39

Just imagine someone shouting “Buzz, buzz off!”

Brilliant. Giggling so much at this, I'm getting strange looks.

CaveDrawer · 22/04/2019 22:49

It has lovely associations for me as it was the nickname my DBs and I gave our DGF. But saying that using it as an actual name for a child would mean he would no doubt be subject to schooldays filled with bee impressions and being told to buzz off which would be wearing at best. I’d give him the nn buzz for use by family but a real name that is easier to live with.

BackforGood · 22/04/2019 22:49

I don't like it because I care about the poor sod it is given to having everyone they ever meet asking them what it is short for or a nick name for, or why on earth their parents decided to give it to them.

Also, where I live, it is what we call a bus Wink

Please don't. It's one of those silly names which everyone thinks would be cute on a toddler, but it's impossible to imagine a 45 year old plumber, bank manager or teacher called Buzz.

Flamingosnbears · 23/04/2019 08:52

It's the name of the older brother in hom alone that's my first thought then the American astronaut then of course lightyear it's a name I think alot of Little boys would love and find fun possibly not so much when older but if you pair it with a formal middle I don't see how you can go wrong really...

AGoodWench · 23/04/2019 08:56

An astronaut named Edwin nickname of Buzz: very cool.

Standalone Buzz: no.

ReginaGeorgeous · 24/04/2019 12:18

Same here @backforgood!

Don't do it OP. No good can come from it. He'll spend all his life hearing "to infinity, and beyond!".

MumUnderTheMoon · 24/04/2019 15:08

I really like it but it is an onomatopoeic word so I suppose it's not to everyone's taste.

NorthernRunner · 24/04/2019 15:39

I like it. But I live in hackney, so I am surrounded by names like Phoenix, Nutro, Osiris and Arizona. Smile

Beenherebefore · 24/04/2019 15:43

Oh god no!
How would YOU like it as your name?!
Use it as a nickname.
Oh it's just awful!

BUZZ off
Flies BUZZ round shit
BUZZ Lightyear

Oh my god, NO!

Minglemangle · 24/04/2019 18:41

The celeb offspring of attention seekers like McFly and Frank Skinner will probably end up changing their names as soon as they are able to. Buzz is just shit, not even cute on a 2 year old IMO.

mimibunz · 24/04/2019 18:43

What if he wants to be Prime Minister?

itsnotso · 24/04/2019 18:46

Everyone saying Buzz won't follow the child as it grows, yet what about all those children called Teddy? I've said it before on a thread that I honestly cannot imagine calling someone Teddy across the boardroom. But times have changed and we all have to adapt, so I'm sure if you name him Buzz everyone will just get used to calling him it, just like we're all now used to the name Teddy 😳 I currently work with someone called Talulah, I'm sure it sounded really cute as a child but it's odd in a meeting situation.

BellMcEnd · 24/04/2019 18:49

I used to work with a Buzz. He was a medical doctor and was the most humourless man I’ve ever met. It probably stemmed from being asked most days “as in Aldrin?” and / or “as in Lightyear?”

EdWinchester · 24/04/2019 18:53

To me, it's not even a proper name and to burden a child with such a silly name is just irresponsible.

Plus that twit from McFly named one of his Buzz - nuff said.

hippermiddleton · 24/04/2019 21:00

I'm not sure Teddy's quite the same as Buzz, though: Teddy's a regular, quite posh abbreviation of Edward and Theodore, and can be shortened to the less cute Ted. There are plenty of boardroom Teds: Teddy Roosevelt, Ted Kennedy, Ted Hughes, Ted Heath Ted Crilly There's nowhere to go with Buzz.

EdWinchester · 24/04/2019 21:03

Yes, no comparison between Buzz and Ted.
