This will be our last child he is due in 5 weeks. I would like to put to have for his middle name Shelby Scott in memory of mine and other half siblings who have passed away so does Rowan Shelby Scott or Rowan Scott Shelby sound better? thanks

I prefer Roan Shelby Scott.
I have a Roan, always assume Rowan is a girl tbh.

MoreSlidingDoors · 20/04/2019 14:54

Shelby Scott sounds better to me.

FWIW, I have 2 middle names. So does DD (one is my surname). My sister has 3.

I don’t think it’s silly.

DramaAlpaca · 20/04/2019 14:55

Two middle names isn't unusual & Rowan Shelby Scott sounds better.

Frazzled2207 · 20/04/2019 14:57

Both our kids have two middle names.
Mostly just because we couldn't agree on just one.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/04/2019 14:58

I don't think Rowan is particularly girly, it's like Alex or Chris, I know about equal amounts of males and females of the name.

I prefer Rowan Shelby Scott, it flows better. My middle name is Scott and people have occasionally assumed that my surname is double-barrelled (Scott-NoSugar), but perhaps that's just because I'm female so it might not be an issue for little Rowan.

bridgetreilly · 20/04/2019 15:45

I would have Rowan Scott Shelby for a boy, just because both Rowan and Shelby are unisex names, so I'd want the clearly boys name sooner.

Cookit · 20/04/2019 15:46

Shelby Scott works the best I think. No issue with two middle names.

Sexnotgender · 20/04/2019 15:48

My DS has 2 middle names.

Shelby Scott sounds better.

Bumblebeesmum · 20/04/2019 16:56

Both ways round work & no it’s not silly at all

HettyStThomas · 20/04/2019 17:01

My DC have 2 middle names each. We chose one each.

DH has two middle names, and so do our twins, although the second middle name is the same. All the names come from close relatives who’ve passed away. My mum died before I got pregnant and we would have used her name if we had a girl but we had two boys - felt wrong to use a variation of her name for just one of them, so they both have an anagram of her first name as their second middle name (which happily is a common boy’s name, not some random concoction!).

BlueMerchant · 20/04/2019 17:11

Definitely Shelby Scott imo.

SherlockSays · 20/04/2019 17:12

I have 3 middle names - whilst I think it's a little silly to have 3, it's caused me no harm and I would have liked DD to have 2 but DH wouldn't allow it!

Icklepup · 21/04/2019 17:16

Scott Shelby is a character in the game Heavy Rain, so... Rowan Shelby Scott!

ABitOTT · 21/04/2019 23:13

I have a name which is apparently a male name, however I've only heard of the name being used for a female. My middle name is spelt in what was considered the male way (this was 1970). When I started secondary school, I was listed as a boy. I was mortified as the head of house said this out loud & the other pupils used it as ammunition for bullying.

I am so pleased there are now more names that can be unisex! Roan Shelby Scott flows better, but equally Roan Scott Shelby sounds good too.

MercyBodle · 21/04/2019 23:25

2 middle names is very common and not silly at all. Sounds like a great idea in your case. I think the middles work in both orders, and it may depend on the surname - how many syllables and what it starts with. Shelby Scott is slightly better I think.

AlliKaneErikson · 22/04/2019 11:35

My dd has two middle names- I think it’s fine. I like your name choice.

outpinked · 22/04/2019 12:29

My DS’s have two middle names. With DS1 I wanted him to have my late Grandfather’s name as one of the middle names but I also liked another name so put that in there too. With DS2, DP wanted his Grandfather’s name but I also wanted the name I wanted to actually call DS but DP had vetoed.

They have long names as a result as both also have two surnames Grin, will probably hate me as they get older and have to fill out paperwork!

Hitheresunrays · 22/04/2019 14:28

Rowan Shelby Scott sounds lovely. In this case I would say having two middle names is absolutely fine

LadyKylieShagworthy · 22/04/2019 15:09

Roman Shelby Scott. Fab name.

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 22/04/2019 15:10

Rowan Shelby Scott would be my preference!

Rowan is one of my all time favourite boys names :)
