What does everyone think? This is the name me and DP think we have finally decided on!

I know one who's 9 & one who's 90 and it suits both of them perfectly.

It's a very nice name, but I think it's got quite popular recently.

Easterbunnynearlyhere · 19/04/2019 19:12

Depends how it would be pronounced where you live imo. Arthur or Arfur?

isabellerossignol · 19/04/2019 19:17

I love it. Although I might not if it were pronounced as Arfur...

Whisky2014 · 19/04/2019 19:19

I love it and it's the name I have picked out for my boy being born in august :)

TildaTurnip · 19/04/2019 19:19

It seems popular where I live and hearing ‘Arth’ shouted sounds a little sealionish.

mcjx · 19/04/2019 19:22

Definitely not pronouncing it as Arfur!

This is top of DH's list but I'm not sure because there suddenly seem to be dozens of baby and toddler Arthurs in our town and I'd prefer a more timeless name than a popular one.

Whisky2014 · 19/04/2019 19:24

TillyTheTiger well we arent picking a "popular name" we are picking it as my husbands grandad was Arthur. So naming after him.

DowntonCrabby · 19/04/2019 19:28

I loved it when expecting DS(6) we chose a different name which isn’t dissimilar. There are probably 10 Arthur’s at that school now age 4-8 so ta become very popular.

I do still love it though.

mcjx · 19/04/2019 19:29

Arthur isn't popular where I love. I don't know any children with that name! I didn't know it was becoming more common

Ribbonsonabox · 19/04/2019 19:29

Love it! One of my favourite names for a boy... I also love Atlas but thats a bit out there for some!

Bumblebeesmum · 19/04/2019 20:10

I love it
A friend has one but he’s known as Archie

formerbabe · 19/04/2019 20:11

I know it's become fashionable again but it's so drab imo.

Peachbubble · 19/04/2019 20:30

I like it

mcjx · 19/04/2019 20:53

Glad the majority seem to like it! I know it is slightly different and I honestly don't know any babies or children with the name.

It's Arthur or Alfie we have on our list

OP posts:
hereiamonmnagain · 19/04/2019 20:55

Alfie is v v v common where I live (lovely name, that's why). But Arthur - yes I know a few around here but nowhere near as common as Alfie/Archie.

RuthW · 19/04/2019 21:41

The most popular name at the moment.

ZebraKid71 · 19/04/2019 22:01

I think Arthur is tied with Freddie for the most babies I know with the same name! I have honestly never taken my almost 2 year old to a class or group and there not been an Arthur!

I don't really have a strong opinion on it, it's fine as a name but the popularity would really put me off.

Whisky2014 · 19/04/2019 22:01

I also dont know any!

Lobsterquadrille2 · 19/04/2019 22:23

I know two baby Arthurs - lovely name. I also know three Alberts and two Stanleys and these don't seem that common in general.

BelulahBlanca · 19/04/2019 22:25

Arthur and Alfie are both super popular.

Topseyt · 19/04/2019 22:27

I think it is a lovely name. Why does it matter that it may be popular? I've never really understood that.

My DD2 has a strong and classic name that was very popular when she was born. There were three in her school class, and all lived along our road. They were all best friends at primary school too. Never a problem.

If you like Arthur then use it. I think it is a great name. Timeless, strong and classic.

SaltedCaramelEverything · 21/04/2019 19:44

It’s a lovely name OP.

I think it’s top 20 for boys names now though. Not that that’s a reason to put you off, but you said you don’t know any - so if it’s your first baby you may see some at baby groups!

My DS name is very popular but I loved it and couldn’t imagine him with anything else so I was fine by that.
