Maribel

Hi,
I am loving Maribel and the French meaning "star of the sea, beautiful" as we found out we were pregnant whilst holidaying at the beach.
The nickname we would use would be Belle.
But is this name a bit out there? I come from a very conservative family.
Any feedback appreciated 😀
Thanks

It sounds lovely!

mathanxiety · 19/04/2019 21:07

Maribel doesn't mean star of the sea by any stretch of the imagination. It's a version of Mary.

It's a popular name in Puerto Rico. I worked with a lovely Puerto Rican Maribel years ago. She was named after her aunt and great grandma.

I love the name.

FenellaMaxwell · 19/04/2019 22:46

It doesn’t mean star of the sea. It means ‘Mary is beautiful’. Confused

Stella Maris means star of the sea.

Veterinari · 19/04/2019 22:51

French ski resort

Beeziekn33ze · 19/04/2019 22:58

Mirabelle

Meriel is Celtic, meaning Bright Sea and a little more common I'd imagine. I have known two, both shortened to Merry/Merri

@barnet Marie-Laure is the blind character in a book set near the sea in St Mali during the war. Beautiful name

barnet · 20/04/2019 00:16

PieceofpurpleskyYes! That’s it thanks

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 20/04/2019 00:30

Looks like you've misspelled the ski resort. It also reminds me of baby bel.

Yoozanaim · 20/04/2019 00:42

Oh. I have just looked up the meaning. Put me right off. I like a nice name meaning.

Yoozanaim · 20/04/2019 00:45

What about Maristella - means SEA STAR!

You're welcome! Grin

That it doesn’t mean ‘star of the sea’ has been covered.

That would be Merétoile.

Maribel’s ok, I prefer Mirabel.

LittleMissMummaBear · 20/04/2019 14:28

I don’t particularly like it, I much prefer the classier Marilena. But you seem to really love it, if you do go for it! x

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 20/04/2019 14:30

Like it, makes me think of skiing.

Reminds me of Babybel sorry Blush

WokenUp · 20/04/2019 16:32

I prefer Meribel, looks softer!

Where did you find your version of the meaning of the name from, OP?

Sessy19 · 20/04/2019 16:59

Maribel, Mirabella, Meribel...I like them all, pretty, less usual. One of them means ‘wondrous’ (apparently, although probably will be corrected!) which is also a pretty lovely meaning. Congratulations!! Lovely conception stoRy 😊

Eledamorena · 21/04/2019 03:33

I knew a Maribel years ago, she would be in her late 70s/early 80s now. Spanish lady. It really suited her. She said it was a contraction of Maria and Isobel, as a pp said.

I like it!

elephantmarch · 21/04/2019 06:03

Go for it. It’s lovely.

Petalflowers · 21/04/2019 06:28

Really pretty, and I love the beach association also with it.

If you love it, use it.

daisypond · 21/04/2019 13:39

It doesn't have a beach or sea association. But I think it's a nice name.

daisypond · 21/04/2019 13:43

You could have Marina or Stella, meaning both "of the sea" or "star" in Italian. They're both lovely names independently. Stella Marina together means "starfish", I think.
