How common is Millie where you are?

I think we've finally chosen a name but it'll probably get shortened to Millie for day-to-day. I am slighty put off with how popular Millie is (according to ONS 2017). But in reality, how popular is it around you?

I haven't heard it at all for under 5s. I'm in the SE.

I'm also in the se and it isn't that common apart from my dd school friend recently had a sibling with that name

Soubriquet · 17/04/2019 08:08

1 in my dd’s Class

ImposterSyndrome101 · 17/04/2019 08:10

Me friend has a thirteen year old sister called Millie. But that was her middle name and when her parents adopted her they switched it around.

Here in the NE it’s more common as a dogs name but it just makes me think of the old fashioned and unnecessarily worded books Millie-Molly-Mandy.

ElizabethMainwaring · 17/04/2019 08:10

It's quite common amongst 10-12 year olds here in the Midlands.

abcriskringle · 17/04/2019 08:16

Very common amongst teens here but not heard many under 5s with that name.

IntoValhalla · 17/04/2019 08:18

I know a toddler Millie, a pensioner Milly (short for Millicent), and a dog Millie (Sorry Blush)

I think it’s a lovely name Smile

NotStayingIn · 17/04/2019 08:19

I like it and don’t know any children either with that name. (I wonder if that’s related to our age and the news stories we remember well as we maybe think a bit of Millie/Milly in the same way as Madeline. Different scenario of course but high profile case.) My friends dog is Millie. I do really like it though.

InsertFunnyUsername · 17/04/2019 08:21

imabusybee · 17/04/2019 08:27

Very popular among dogs here Blush

Tiramisu1 · 17/04/2019 08:30

Very popular among 10-15 year olds.

isabellerossignol · 17/04/2019 08:33

It's not used at all where I am, because the word millie is an insult here.

Having said that, I actually think it's a lovely name. Just not where I live.

Tiramisu1 · 17/04/2019 08:34

An insult?

Snipples · 17/04/2019 08:38

I know one Millie. Like PP I wouldn't use it as it's a derogatory term in NI. I know it's posh in England but it's the exact opposite where I'm from.

GMtoBe · 17/04/2019 08:40

In the Midlands. The only one I know is my niece who is 8.

isabellerossignol · 17/04/2019 08:44

An insult?

Yes. A gendered insult, implying loose morals etc.

notacooldad · 17/04/2019 08:45

I only know one and she is 20.

Hunkyd0ry · 17/04/2019 08:46
