I mean Marry.

OwlBeThere · 16/04/2019 20:26

Also, people will not call your dd Marie Claire, it'll be shortened to MC
I’m always bemused when people say things like this as if it’s a statement of fact. SOME people MAY call her MC, but no one I know would do that unless expressly told to call her MC. By no means is it inevitable!!
I had an aunt called Marie Elizabeth who we called Marbeth. But no one called her ME Hmm

Lobsterquadrille2 · 16/04/2019 21:28

I really like it but I'm biased as I have a very similar name. It's only shortened to initials by my brother.

MumUnderTheMoon · 17/04/2019 23:27

I do also think of the magazine. What about Marie Louise?

Parker231 · 17/04/2019 23:35

It’s quite a common name where I’m from in Belgium but not heard as anything but the full version. I like it.

Kokeshi123 · 18/04/2019 00:22

How about Anne-Marie?

PlasmaRain · 18/04/2019 02:29

I love Marie-Claire, pronounced the French way, it does immediately bring the magazine to mind unfortunately but I always associate it with the ‘Where do you go to my lovely?’ song by Peter Sarstedt.

I love Marie and Claire as standalone names too.

thegreylady · 18/04/2019 12:12

I love it and associate it with the Peter Sarstedt song not the magazine. It is my niece’s name.

Flamingosnbears · 18/04/2019 12:31

We have chosen a Marie name.
A few suggestions for you:
Marie Clarice
Marie Celia
Marie Lucia

joaninthesun · 18/04/2019 12:37

I know a Marie-Claire and no the magizine connection does not follow her around. And her name certainly has not been shortened to MC Hmm

It’s a gorgeous name.

brizzlemint · 18/04/2019 12:39

Yes, it's a magazine not a person's name.

BlueMerchant · 18/04/2019 12:40

Magazine.

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 18/04/2019 13:02

I know a "Marry"-Clare and she's never shortened to MC (or anything else AFAIK) and I never think of the magazine. It's a lovely name

NoHolidaysforyou · 21/04/2019 00:08

I think of the magazine.

How about Marie Charlotte, Marie Rose, or Marie Chloe?

JungleToForest2019 · 02/07/2020 20:38

Marie-Claire is a family name of my husbands as he’s French. His grandmother’s name. We all think it’s very pretty and to honour her our DD2 (5) is named Marie-Claire. It was in the family before the magazine and the magazine has just gone out of print in the UK ... not popular any more. Doubt the next generation will even know about the magazine. Time to reclaim the name! :) xx

LoveSunshine01 · 02/07/2020 21:11

I really like it, I've known someone called Marie-Claire for years and never associated the name with the magazine. Even if people do, I don't see that it's a problem!

whatausername · 02/07/2020 21:20

ZOMBIE

MikeUniformMike · 04/07/2020 12:57

Is her sister called Elle?

EuphieKat · 06/07/2020 01:12

I know a lovely Claire-Marie...which I prefer.
