I’d appreciate some honest feedback on the name please. We have Theodora on our list and Dorothea was suggested to us.

Our eldest daughter’s name is Violet.

I love it. Only known one but she was a lovely scientist.

mimibunz · 14/04/2019 15:16

Sorry, I also love Theodora! They’re both lovely, strong names.

paperandfireworks · 14/04/2019 15:18

Much prefer Theodora

MyDcAreMarvel · 14/04/2019 15:19

Prefer Dorothea to Theodora.

jacquesjacques · 14/04/2019 15:21

I love Theodora but anybody I say that to starts humming the Wizadora theme tune which I can't get past now! Sorry op Sad it's a gorgeous name though and you're probably not as easily irritated as me! Grin

DramaAlpaca · 14/04/2019 15:22

I prefer Dorothea.

daisypond · 14/04/2019 15:25

I really like it.

Jessi88 · 14/04/2019 15:28

@jacquesjacques Grin Isadora was also suggested to and Wizadora was my first thought, despite liking the name.

We do have a few other names on our list but we’re trying to narrow down the similar ones. Theodora vs Dorothea and Beatrix vs Beatrice, for example.

Is it pronounced Dorothe-ah or Dorothy? When I read Middlemarch I pronounced it the same as Dorothy.

Jessi88 · 14/04/2019 15:32

BelulahBlanca I pronounce it with the Thea ending.

I like Beatrice and Theodora. Prefer Dorothy to Dorothea, and also like another name with -thea at the end, Anthea.

GinaCarbonara · 14/04/2019 15:52

I know one Dorothea and I love her and her name. She is a wonderful woman.

CrisisMummy · 14/04/2019 15:57

Dorothea and Theodore have the same meaning ...

ThanksItHasPockets · 14/04/2019 16:50

Oh I love it. I like Theodora too but I’m not sure I’d use it at the moment when Theo and Theodore are so popular for boys.

I wonder if you might also like Thora.

Becles · 14/04/2019 16:51

Dorothea is an amazing name.

Heyarnold91 · 14/04/2019 16:51

I prefer Dorothy to Dorothea
Theodora is beautiful

Calixtine · 14/04/2019 16:55

Love both Dorothea and Theodora. I prefer the latter myself but both are beautiful.

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/04/2019 17:14

Love it and much prefer it to Theodora

1sttimeunicorn · 14/04/2019 17:30

Middlemarch is my favourite book. It's just a lovely lovely lovely name. I'm expecting DC2 currently and it would be a girl name choice for me but it just doesn't go with my DS's name at all.

MikeUniformMike · 14/04/2019 18:27

I prefer Dorothy to Dorothea, and I love Dot. Theodora is too similar to Theodore, which I don't like,

Ribbonsonabox · 14/04/2019 18:30

Dorothea is absolutely gorgeous. Really love it.

I quite like Theodora but not quite as much.

I also really like Isadora!

VoyageInTheDark · 14/04/2019 18:36

I like Dorothea, there's a character in Endeavour on itv called that

bibbitybobbityyhat · 14/04/2019 18:38

I like it but I absolutely love Dorothy.

GabrielleNelson · 14/04/2019 18:44

Dorothea is a wonderful name. Thea and Dot(tie) are great too. It makes me think of Swallows and Amazons. Terrific character in Winter Holiday and several later books called Dorothea.

Expressedways · 14/04/2019 18:48

I really want to like it but I absolutely hated Middlemarch and can think of nothing else except the god awful slog that was having to read it at uni. Theodora is lovely so would definitely be my pick.
