We are having a boy and have quite a long shortlist!

Do any of the below combinations stand out for you - good or bad?

Scott Benjamin
Scott Arnold
Scott Thomas
Otto Dean
Otto Lee
Arnold Scott
Arnold Jack
Arnold Dean
Toby Nathaniel
Toby Scott
Benjamin Jack
Benjamin Scott
Benjamin Lee
Benjamin Dean

Middle names are used so rarely that it's really more about first and surnames. You'll only be shouting the full thing when you're really annoyed at them.

That said I'll answer the question since you asked. I don't like any of the Scott first name combinations, don't like Otto, I used to have a pet rat called Arnold, he was lovely but I can't picture it on a child. Tobias Scott is nice, but I don't like Toby as a standalone name.

Which leaves Benjamin. Benjamin Dean sounds like a lawyer's firm. Ditto Benjamin Scott.

Benjamin Jack or Benjamin Lee. Probably the latter.

pilates · 10/04/2019 19:45

Benjamin Jack

BlueMerchant · 10/04/2019 19:50

Toby Nathaniel is the best although I'm not keen. Prefer Toby Jack.
I really don't like Arnold- 'Hey Arnold'
Benjamin I don't like but I don't mind 'Ben'
I knew a dog 'Otto' so that's all I can think of sorry.
Scott is very dated (80's) imo.

abcriskringle · 10/04/2019 19:51

Not a fan of Arnold or Scott really. I do like Otto and Toby but Benjamin is my favourite. I'd go Benjamin Jack or Lee.

undercoverhero · 10/04/2019 20:02

Benjamin Scott is a lovely name!
Although not on your list I really like Peter Scott

Peachbubble · 10/04/2019 20:07

I like all your first names apart from Arnold. I'd probably choose Benjamin Jack or Benjamin Scott.

NutMeghan · 10/04/2019 20:59

Toby Nathaniel is the nicest of those

MadameJosephine · 10/04/2019 21:06

Toby Nathaniel is the best of your options but out of all of your names I love Nathaniel Thomas

Tiramisu1 · 10/04/2019 21:14

I like Tobias and Arnold.

pinkpanther84 · 10/04/2019 21:20

Benjamin Jack

Sophronia · 10/04/2019 21:29

Otto Benjamin would be nice.

ReginaPhalange89 · 10/04/2019 21:36

Really wouldn't pair Otto with Lee . Isn't there a girls name Ottilie ? Sounds too similar and makes it sound like a girls name .

Really dislike Scott, Arnold and Otto.

Benjamin and Toby are both fine, if I had to pick one probably Benjamin Lee or Jack

Lobsterquadrille2 · 10/04/2019 21:39

Benjamin Jack is lovely.

Bentley111 · 10/04/2019 21:47

I love Arnold, Otto & Scott.

My favourites would be
Arnold Scott
Otto Dean
Scott Thomas

Otto Lee sounds like Ottilie to me. Not a fan of Scott Arnold for some reason.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/04/2019 21:57

Huge variety of names there!

Toby Nathaniel or
Benjamin Jack

mosskatie33 · 10/04/2019 22:49

I like Benjamin Scott although Scott isn’t my favourite name...Benjamin is though as I’m a tad biased!

DramaAlpaca · 10/04/2019 22:52

I only like Benjamin, Thomas & Nathaniel out of all those names.

Of the combinations listed I'd have to say Benjamin Lee.

Icantthinkofasinglenamehelp · 11/04/2019 00:49

Lee, Scott and Dean are all quite dated - make me think of a 90s 'lad' wearing fake burberry. So not those. I'd go for Toby Nathaniel or Benjamin Jack Smile

RainbowMum11 · 11/04/2019 01:41

I like Benjamin as a first name - do any middle name options have family connections or is it just the sound?

MercyBodle · 11/04/2019 08:37

I also think Toby Nathaniel and Benjamin Jack are the best names on your list.

HankyPanky04 · 11/04/2019 08:38

I like Benjamin and Tobias.
Though Benjamin Jack has the initials BJ....

JustAnotherMillennial · 11/04/2019 08:48

Arnold is woeful, I am from the generation of Hey Arnold! so cant get past that.

Benjamin is meh, its nice I feel like its been overused.

I really like Scott, it would have been a middle name if I had boys.

Always liked Nathaniel (Nate is a great nickname!) so my vote would be Nathaniel Scott.m

MagnoliaGarden · 11/04/2019 13:27

Thanks for all your replies. Especially @HankyPanky04 - I hadn't thought about that in combination and definitely one to avoid!

We also had Benjamin Arnold on the list, but it reminded me too much of Benedict Arnold, so that was a no-go.

This has also been helpful where names have been deemed a poor choice by some, where we really love the name, we don't mind and that has been lovely to discover.

After a shortlisting last night with dh, we are down to three and although some might think Scott is dated and Arnold reminds them of Hey Arnold, we love all three and just need to wait to see what baby suits when he joins us.

Benjamin Scott
Toby Nathaniel
Jack Arnold

I was going to say Benjamin Scott but then his initials would be BS if that bothers you? Good luck x

Icklepup · 14/04/2019 12:23

I like Jack Arnold
