Thoughts on Flynn for a boy? Do you know many?

I know two Flynns (one a baby, one a teen). I like it!

ElizabethMainwaring · 10/04/2019 07:33

It's ok. A bit nondescript. Inoffensive. I've never met one (TA/ teacher for 15 years).

Tiramisu1 · 10/04/2019 08:12

I know one Flynn. I much prefer Quinn.

Calixtine · 10/04/2019 08:24

Now see Quinn reminds me too much of quim Confused

I do like it though

I'm a bit "meh" about Flyn I'm afraid... think I prefer Finn. I don't know why. Even though it's more ubiquitous.
Finlay
Fintan
🤷🏻‍♀️

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 10/04/2019 08:29

Also it just makes me think "In like Flynn" sorry.

ems137 · 10/04/2019 08:31

I love it. It was always on my list for both my boys. I'd have got my way if my 2nd child hadn't been a girl!

BelulahBlanca · 10/04/2019 08:33

It’s top of my boys list. Love it.

cariadlet · 10/04/2019 08:48

I'm a teacher so come across loads of different names but have never met a Flynn.

To me it's a surname and I'd be thinking "in like Flynn" every time I saw him (Errol Flynn).

PS I'm not old enough to remember Errol Flynn in RL so he must have made a big impact for the saying to automatically come into my head.

Theoldwoman · 10/04/2019 08:56

Nope, so many nicer masculine names.

BlueMerchant · 10/04/2019 09:03

Flynn. Not my 'type' of name but it's actually much better than the similar Finlay/Finn.
I don't know any.

adulthumanwolf · 10/04/2019 09:07

Agree with it being "meh". Just feels a bit dim and flat to me.

Moondancer73 · 10/04/2019 10:20

Love it, much nicer than Fin.

MaryShelley1818 · 10/04/2019 10:35

I think it’s lovely

Sophronia · 10/04/2019 12:52

I prefer Finn.

DramaAlpaca · 10/04/2019 17:46

It's OK, but I prefer Finn.

sawyersfishbiscuits · 10/04/2019 17:47

It was on my list, I really like it.

Calixtine · 10/04/2019 19:23

I do quite like Finn but I know a few little ones... which means Flynn would probably be quite confusing too, but I like its very direct sound, IYSWIM.

What other names would you say are similar (in style rather than sound) to Flynn?

lordofthefries · 10/04/2019 19:30

I really like Flynn, I know brothers called Austin, Evan and Flynn. Are any of them to your taste?

Hollowvictory · 10/04/2019 19:30

Like it a lot. Its dashing

daisypond · 10/04/2019 19:51

I’m not keen. It’s a bit wannabe surfer dude to me.

GraceMarks · 10/04/2019 20:17

It makes me think first of Errol Flynn, then Jerome, then the hero out of Tangled... I don't like surnames as first names personally, and I don't even think Flynn has a nice sound to it. Do you have any others on the shortlist?

NutMeghan · 10/04/2019 20:43

I don't know any. It is a very nice name, though very similar to Finn if that's what you're trying to avoid.

How about Sam? Ben?

DarlingLittleBabyName · 10/04/2019 21:18

oooh Flynn is such a lovely name for a boy, one of my favourites! good pick op! x

ReginaGeorgeous · 10/04/2019 21:24

I know of one, who's about 7 now I think (distant cousins child). Prefer Finn.
