If I love these girls names can you think of any names I might also like? I kind of like an Italian vibe but then also traditional sounding English classics, bit of a mixed bag I suppose. Also, do you like these names? If you don't like them can you tell me why exactly?

Rose/Rosie
Harriet
Lucia
Emma nn Emmy
Emmeline nn Emmy
Elizabeth / Elisabeth
Mary
Charlotte nn Lottie
Alessia nn Lessie/y
Darcy
Ruby

I love the nn Emmy for those two,
And then I kinda like 'Gemma' but wouldn't use it I went to school with a really annoying girl called Gemma and I can't get over it.

Would be really grateful for any suggestions, I can't think anymore!

If you like Gemma, what about Jenna? I think it's such a beautiful and classic name, I don't understand why it's not more common.

Mooshu · 05/04/2019 20:26

Rose/Rosie- I like Rose a lot but not Rosie at all! Too frilly
Harriet- just sounds a bit ugly to me sorry!
Lucia- not keen! Don’t like ‘Lu’ names in general
Emma- Find this name really dull
Emmeline- not keen at all
Elizabeth / Elisabeth- I really like Elizabeth
Mary- absolutely adore Mary! Biased though as it’s my DDs name
Charlotte- not keen but it’s not that bad! It’s ok.
Alessia nn Lessie/y- really not keen
Darcy- no really don’t like! It’s too faddy
Ruby- nice!

NotQuiteSlimJim · 05/04/2019 20:56

@34plus4

That's a real mismatch of names....

Elizabeth and Darcy?

Charlotte and Alessia?

Elizabeth & Charlotte = classic

Darcy and Alessia = a bitmodern and common (not in popularity Wink)

I prefer your classic choices.

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 05/04/2019 21:05

Rose/Rosie - rose is a bit old fashioned and prim and proper for a first name for me. Rosie is nice but cutesie?
Harriet - nice
Lucia - not sure if you've already answered this but is it pronounced lu-see-ah or lu-chee-ah? I like it with an s sound
Emma nn Emmy - cute
Emmeline nn Emmy - cute
Elizabeth / Elisabeth - again too traditional for me!
Mary - way too old fashioned for my liking. I'm 25 and went to school with 2x Mary's. Both very religious.
Charlotte nn Lottie - cute
Alessia nn Lessie/y - cute
Darcy - cute
Ruby - cute

You might like
Alyssa
Francesca
Ettie
Sylvie
Amelia / Emilia

Lucia no. The ones I met pronounce like Lucy-a and Luchia so it is too confusing.

I think Darcy is a boy name.

Rosie, Ruby and Charlotte are now too overused and dated.

I don't like Harriet as it seems like it became popular because it is the female form of Harry.... just slap a suffix on the end for the girls! And I really do not like Hattie, it feels like a contrived nickname as surely Harri/Harry would be the most natural nickname? And I can't past the Hat-adjective Hmm

NormaTheHippo · 06/04/2019 18:37

Jemima

34plus4 · 07/04/2019 12:43

I do like Francesca! But hate nn's Fran and Cesca which would be unavoidable at school!

Aqua is a definite no no!!

I do really like 'Frances' but again, Fran erks me.

I love Claudia and Alexandra, but can't use those.

I just don't see how I'll ever be able to choose!

Thank you all.

My sister is Francesca but her nn has always been Chess/Chessie, if that helps?

keenwasalad · 07/04/2019 12:55

Jemima?

daisypond · 07/04/2019 13:04

Rose/Rosie - I like rose but not Rosie- too cutesy
Harriet - dull and worthy
Lucia - yes I like this pronounced the Italian way
Emma nn Emmy - ok but a bit boring
Emmeline nn Emmy- a bit boring
Elizabeth / Elisabeth -yes, classic
Mary- yes. Classic and not common
Charlotte nn Lottie - downmarket
Alessia nn Lessie/y - yes
Darcy - downmarket
Ruby - yes. Simple but quite a strong name.

Alessa? Laura pronounced the Italian way? Celia? Cecilia pronounced the Italian way? Anna? Rosa? Cosima?

smallereveryday · 07/04/2019 13:09

Daisy ?

imsorryiasked · 07/04/2019 13:18

Jemima
Jennifer

Love Alessia

jiggsymalone · 07/04/2019 16:08

Out of your list I think Emma is beautiful, classic and timeless but not over-used.

Alessia is beautiful when pronounced properly but in the UK it gets said with 1 's' instead of 2 and it's also a very obviously Italian name so would be a bit weird if you're not Italian.
What about Emilia? Italian but used so much by non-Italians now that it's 'crossed over'.

ethansmumma · 08/04/2019 21:53

Firstly if you cant bare Gemma, what about Jenna?

Gabrielle or Gabrielle
Layla
Aria
Rochelle
Fleur
Clementine
Sienna
Iris
Ivy
Keira
Avery
Emelia

34plus4 · 08/04/2019 22:11

Jemima is lovely! Clementine is nice but wouldn't be brave enough to use it😬

I agree I think maybe Charlotte has become really overused and sounds abit boring now.

Yes baby will be 1/4 Italian is it's not too weird! I love Alessia! I didn't realise there were 2 ways to pronounce it though?

I also like Lucia pronounced loo see ah rather than the traditional loo chi ah however I think that would make my nonna turn in her grave😩 Luchia, luchia, luchia... the more I say it the more weird it sounds

Rose/Rosie - love them both. I'd probably go with Rose on the bc & use Rosie as a nn. My favourite of your names.
Harriet - love
Lucia - pronounced Luchia, it sounds like a disease to me. Much prefer Lucille
Emma nn Emmy - love Emma
Emmeline nn Emmy - not a fan, I get the association with Emmeline Pankhurst but otherwise unsure of why this name is so popular
Elizabeth / Elisabeth - love Elisabeth. Elspeth is beautiful too
Mary - 100%
Charlotte nn Lottie - ok
Alessia nn Lessie/y - not a fan
Darcy - to me, it's a boys name
Ruby - cute, but prefer others above
