Looking for suggestions of boy names out of the top 100. Me and my partner are really struggling and baby is due soon!

Are there any inn the top 100 that you like so we can have an idea of the type of names you prefer?

G0919 · 04/04/2019 12:41

We like Logan, Caleb, Ezra, Toby and Jude in the top 100. I absolutely love Fraser but my partner doesn’t. Struggling to find something that I love as much

Tancred
Conrad
Garth
Elijah
Zadok

ApolloandDaphne · 04/04/2019 12:43

So if you like those names why don't you use one of them? They are all really lovely.

Twickerhun · 04/04/2019 12:43

Levison?

AuntieStella · 04/04/2019 12:44

Nigel, Jeremy, Geoffrey, Wayne, Denis, Neil, Nicholas, Peter, Andrew, Timothy Anthony, Duncan

G0919 · 04/04/2019 12:45

Because we want something that stands out a bit more. We just don’t want to go for something so popular as those names.

Not sure if these are top 100 or not but how about

Raphael
Quentin
Vincent
Marcus

Letthemysterybe · 04/04/2019 12:54

Logan, Caleb, Ezra, Toby and Jude

Too ‘normal’?

What about

Lazarus
Cassius
Edgar
Thor
Job

Sexnotgender · 04/04/2019 12:57

We had a choice of 2 for DS, both happened to be outside the top 100, not by design.

Giles or Francis were our final 2. We went with Francis.

AnneTwackie · 04/04/2019 12:58

Don’t get this, surely the top 100 names is 100 suggestion to say yes or no to. Why do you need random people to suggest names Hmm

AnneTwackie · 04/04/2019 12:59

Sorry I misread, sleep deprived!

Peachbubble · 04/04/2019 14:17

Tate
Hunter
Cody
Cole
Blake
Reed

No idea if they are top 100 or not though!

Have a look at the actual numbers behind the top 100 before you discount them. The distribution is hugely skewed towards the top 20 and then is much flatter from about number 50 downwards. Nearly a quarter of all of the boys born in 2017 were given a top twenty name.

Look at the number of births in 2017 for the top 5:

OLIVER 6,259
HARRY 5,031
GEORGE 4,929
NOAH 4,273
JACK 4,190

You only have to go to no 63 (Ronnie) to get below 1000 instances, and in 2017 there were 853 Calebs and 827 Ezras.

stellarfox · 04/04/2019 15:26

Totally agree with the above poster. If you look at the stats you’ll find the numbers of girls names are spread out quite a lot more but with boys the ones at the top are very popular, so I wouldn’t automatically discount all of the top 100. I’m trying to avoid top 10 ish!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 04/04/2019 16:20

I work in a school and the name that really stands out to me out of the boys is Oakley

Icypop · 04/04/2019 16:35

Just pick a name you love and don't worry where it is in the list. My son has a top 5 name and ive only met one other at baby groups so far BUT i have met multiple albies, xanders and various other 'unusual' names

BUT i have met multiple albies, xanders and various other 'unusual' names

But Albert/Albie and Alexander/Xander are very popular and most certainly in the top 100.

Our son has a name that was only used about 30 times last year. It may not be everyone's taste but we love it.
