Baby boy names

We are expecting a baby boy and am struggling with choosing a name.

I am liking Sullivan (so we can shorten to Sully) but when I mentioned it to my mum the other day she said no as it is the character in monster inc! Does anyone else associate it with the film or is the film old enough now not to worry!

Any other suggestions gratefully received!

What about Solomon shortened to Solly?

I like Jasper from the other list.

If you look hard enough, you will find a negative connotation with any name.

Willy - Willy
Richard - Dick
George - Georgie Porgie pudding and pie (ie. fat)

I didn’t link the name with the film.

Alternatives:
montgomery (Monty)
Christopher (kit)
Alexander (Alex, Xander)
Solomon (Solly)
Jeremiah
Nathaniel

The first thing I thought about was Monsters inc, sorry.
That doesn't necessarily mean its a bad thing. Just an association.
Other ideas.
Cooper. Fletcher. Fergus. Harris. Maddox. Colton. Hudson. Colby.

I like Sullivan and didn't make the film connection.

Alternatively how ab
Solomon
Zachary
Quentin
Reuben

i reckon if you name him Phil that just shows how much of a dominant lad he is. noone's gonna want to make any negative connections with his name.

True - someone can always make a negative connotation with every name. We’ve decided not to mention it now to any family or friends until baby is actually is named!

I like Solomon (shortened to Sol) but my husband wasn’t keen.

Other ideas we had were Austin (it’s my mums maiden name so quite a nice connection) and Jared.

Ooh Austin is a good idea, then.

Petalflowers · 01/04/2019 20:35

Definitely a good idea not to mention it. There’s been too many posts on mn where a name favoured since childhood has been vetoed by Great Aunt Maud, for some spurious reason.

JustAnotherMillennial · 01/04/2019 20:42

You will get messages on here saying that place names are terrible etc but I really like Austin, nice family link too.

Jared seems a bit dated to me.

Sullivan is ok.

bridgetreilly · 02/04/2019 16:18

There's also this Sully. I don't think either that or Monsters Inc are bad associations. I don't like the name, though. It sounds surly or sulky to me.

Midthirtiesgirl · 02/04/2019 16:21

Sullivan is cool. What about Marshall? I’m considering that one for my bump if it’s a boy .

ReginaPhalange89 · 02/04/2019 16:23

I have a friend with a Sullivan nn Sully. Not going to lie, before she had him I wasn't keen and it did make me think of monsters Inc. but obviously now I just associate it with him instead !

It's not an awful connection . Not everyone would think it either. Just go with a name you love , once he's here and named people won't be able to picture any other name on him

serenawren · 02/04/2019 16:52

Love Sullivan!!
