Hi! Not too far off finally settling on a name, thank you to everyone who has helped so far. I have decided on Larissa.
Which spelling do you all prefer, Larissa or Larisa?

And what do you think of these middle names?
Larissa Amara
Larissa Amira
Larissa Sahar (how would you pronounce sahar if you saw it?? )
Larissa Anaya

Thank you!!!

I'm guessing everyone will assume you have Russian heritage - do you? I prefer Larissa!

fruitbrewhaha · 28/03/2019 11:05

I would say Sahar, ser har.

Ans that is my favourite. Otherwise it feels like there are too many r sounds.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/03/2019 11:05

Larissa Sabrina is lovely

fruitbrewhaha · 28/03/2019 11:05

I was thinking Arabic?

BlueMerchant · 28/03/2019 11:07

Larissa Amara or Larissa Amira.
I think Amira could be the best mn actually-it flows better.

chiarazuri · 28/03/2019 11:09

Yes it is Arabic. I am keen on a name that travels well and is easy to pronounce, so i am hoping these options work well with that criteria and also sound / look beautiful!

Jean

Godowneasy · 28/03/2019 11:17

@TheQueef
I was also going to say Jean!
I think two names together that both end in A, and with several syllables in each name, is too much and doesn't flow at all.
I really like Amira for a first name though!

chiarazuri · 28/03/2019 11:25

thank you for the feedback! Also what do you think of the two spellings? Larissa / Larisa? I prefer Larisa because it looks neater in my opinion, what are your thoughts?

TheQueef · 28/03/2019 11:38

Larisa looks less cluttered to me.

TheRedFox · 28/03/2019 11:53

I would spell it Larissa.

For some reason it looks like an 'S' is missing if spelt the other way.

TheRedFox · 28/03/2019 11:53

A bit like Tessa, Clarissa, Marissa, Jessica etc IYSWIM

NannyR · 28/03/2019 11:57

I'd spell it Larissa, larisa looks to me like it should be pronounced lar-eesa, sounding more like Lisa than Melissa if that makes sense.

Selmababies · 28/03/2019 11:58

Larissa and Larisa will be pronounced differently so it depends which name you actually want.
Larissa- 'rissa' rhymes withe 'kisser'
Larisa- 'risa' rhymes with 'Lisa'

I much prefer Larissa out of the two. But other people will often pronounce it as rhyming with 'lisa' (Trust me on on this as my daughter's name is quite similiar. And her middle name is 'Jean'!)

Thequeenspug · 28/03/2019 12:29

Oh is Lilia Arabic? What does it mean in Arabic? I thought it was Russian

Thequeenspug · 28/03/2019 12:30

Also I prefer Larissa spelling. More traditional.

Larissa Amira is pretty.

Larissa Lilia is also nice but a lot of “L”s

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 28/03/2019 12:33

I prefer Larissa, and as for Sahar, I'd say Sa-Har.

FuzzyShadowChatter · 28/03/2019 12:43

Out of the list, Larissa Amira is my favourite and seems the easiest to pronounce.

I agree with the spelling/pronunciation previously mentioned, I think either is nice but I say Larrisa and Larisa different.

chiarazuri · 28/03/2019 13:26

Thank you for all the opinions so far! I definitely want the "Melissa" equivalent pronunciation so I will go for Larissa! As for middle names, keep the opinions coming!! Still undecided but going off Sahar as the sound / pronunciation doesn't flow as well as the others, what do you think?

Lilia means night in arabic I think.. but it could also be a variant of Lilly

I'm not sure about Sahar but would pronounce it Sa-haaar which I'm guessing is wrong.

Also as a PP said, ending and beginning both the names with looks pretty on "paper" but doesn't sound good when spoken (although in reality, how often will both be said?). I'd look for something beginning with something else or, better stilll, choose a middle name which has personal meaning (and doesn't begin with A Wink)?

GreatDuckCookery · 28/03/2019 14:30

Amara. I love this name, personally I would have this as a first name.

ReginaPhalange89 · 28/03/2019 15:26

I prefer the spelling Larissa . Lovely name btw ! Really like it .

Of the middle names I think Sahar is best , I don't think the others flow as well, maybe because the first name and middle name would start in the same 'ah' sound?

I'd guess Sahar was pronounced as it's spelled really, "Sah-har "

TheRedFox · 28/03/2019 16:47

Re middle names:

As Larissa has 3 syllables I would go for a single syllable, less fussy name. Although I like the names you have suggested I think when put with Larissa the overall impression is a bit OTT.

Whilst I wouldn't necessarily choose the middle name JEAN, I think that it balances nicely with the longer first name.

chiarazuri · 28/03/2019 18:51

Thank you all for the suggestions, really helpful comments, i will stick to a simple and short middle name, jean sounds good so far!
