Thoughts on Hilde?

Its an old Norse name, pronounced like Hilda but without the 'ah' at the end. I think its a strong, female name and don't really like hilda as much.

Thoughts? Any nickname ideas.

Sorry, meant to be a question mark at the end

Sorry but I really don't like it. It doesn't sound like a real name to me

flourella · 24/03/2019 23:15

I love the name Hilda. I also like the spelling Hilde, but I thought it was pronounced the same way; if it is just pronounced "Hild", which seems to be what you're saying, then I don't like it nearly as much. It just sounds like a shortening of/nickname for Hilda.

bridgetreilly · 24/03/2019 23:17

I've only ever seen Hild or Hilda, not Hilde. I'm not a fan of any of them, tbh.

Trinnidad · 24/03/2019 23:19

It's not just a Norse name - St Hild was the Anglo-Saxon abbess of Whitby and was a very strong woman. My middle name is Hilda, I love it. You should definitely do it. I would leave off the 'e' to make pronunciation easier, but that's just me!

DramaAlpaca · 24/03/2019 23:19

I'm sorry, I think it's awful, really frumpy.

I would pronounce it the same as Hilda, which is equally frumpy.

Femodene · 24/03/2019 23:26

Isn’t it pronounced hild-eh ? (Rhymes with billed-meh) that would be reeeeeally annoying to spend 8+decades telling people ‘no it’s not hilled ee’, it’s ok but I wouldn’t want to be called it.

AfterSchoolWorry · 24/03/2019 23:28

I don't really like it, it reminds me of Hilda.

Would you consider Elke?

AdaHopper · 24/03/2019 23:32

It's my DMs name. It is a Dutch / Flemish name too. Short for Hildegard. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hildegard

People in the UK tend to pronounce it like 'Hildy'

To be honest, although I love my DM, I am not a huge fan of the name :)

sunflower332 · 25/03/2019 06:32

Hilde is quite popular in Germany (also often short for Hildegard) and is pronounced As it's written, Hil-de.

sweetsaltypopcorn · 25/03/2019 06:36

It's Hildeous.

Sorry... Grin

Worried2019 · 25/03/2019 06:54

Poor kid! Please don't do that to her.......

Oblomov19 · 25/03/2019 06:54

Awful. Truely awful. Hilde is German isn't it?

Happyandglorious · 25/03/2019 07:01

I think of Hilda Ogden.
For me it is very old lady but not in a cool way. Sorry

JenniferJareau · 25/03/2019 07:02

BlueMerchant · 25/03/2019 11:28

Dont like Hilde.
I really like Hilda. The name and sound of it really appeals to me I just can't get away from the stereotypical old lady.
I don't like Elke. Just reminds me of deer.
