Herbie, Wilfred or Casper??

DS due this summer. Torn between Herbie (Herbert as given name but known as Herbie), Casper or Wilfred (Wilf, Wilfie for short). Any thoughts??

I think Herbie is great! Cute on a baby & cool on a teen / adult. But I must be a 'certain type' Hmm

Choosinganame · 25/03/2019 08:23

Lovely names. I like all of them but probably prefer Caspar and Wilfred just because although I like Herbie on a little boy, I think Herbert is opening up to bullying. Caspar is quite cool.
Wilfred gives lots of options, I know a little Wilfie with sisters Florence and Matilda, lovely!

RuthW · 25/03/2019 09:34

Wilfred. Absolutely love it. Herbie isn't a proper name imo. Herbert is ok though. Casper is nice too although reminds me of the ghost.

RuthW · 25/03/2019 09:35

Sorry hust seen that it would be Herbert. That's fine.

NunoGoncalves · 25/03/2019 10:56

Casper by far.

Although I prefer the spelling Caspar.

Pawpatrolmummy2 · 25/03/2019 14:42

Thanks for your feedback!! Appreciate they're not everyone's cup of tea but it's helpful to know which are the frontrunners! I had my doubts about Herbert and Casper is probably my favourite. Any suggested alternatives? Don't want a name that everyone else has you see!

I don't like any of those three. How about an "eminent Edwardian" name if you like quirky but traditional

Leonard
Cecil
Ronald
Grenville
Arnold
Roger
Rudyard
Kenneth
Gilbert
Edwin
Ernest

I really like the name Casper. What do people think about the name J'Marcus?

Marcus is one of my favourite names. I'm hoping the J' was a typo?

Bumblebeesmum · 25/03/2019 17:44

I thought this was a totally mumsnet type list but from the look of the comments obviously not !

I quite like Caspar it sounds cool
Herbie I love but I’m a Jazz fan....although I have named my puppy Herbie & have met 3 others (puppies)
Wilfred I don’t really like

Bumblebeesmum · 25/03/2019 17:44

I really hope J’Marcus isn’t a real name ???

Bumblebeesmum · 25/03/2019 17:46

People are suggesting Cecil as a better option than Casper?! Seriously???! I must be very out of touch (quite likely)

ijustdontunderstandher · 25/03/2019 17:48

My eldest DS is called Casper, and we definitely weren’t trying too hard

PippilottaLongstocking · 25/03/2019 17:50

I love Wilf!

I like Caspar, it was on my list but I was going to spell it Kaspar. Wilf is probably more ‘socially acceptable’ though!

HappyMama01 · 25/03/2019 17:56

If you must use one of them, Casper is the better option.

rosyedith · 25/03/2019 18:09

People are so opinionated! Just pick a name or go away! Herbie!

NW2SW · 25/03/2019 18:24

Caspian as a riff on Casper? Cas for short.

booh1276 · 25/03/2019 18:25

Omg poor child.

Grin

TBH, they both sound ugly to me, but I figure if that's the kind of name OP likes, at least steer away from "friendly ghost" and possessed VW beetle names.

KingHenrysCodpiece · 25/03/2019 18:33

Herbie Absolutely

SoulSkye30 · 25/03/2019 18:40

Casper

user1494055864 · 25/03/2019 18:40

They sound like the sort of names you'd give a hamster.

AloneLonelyLoner · 25/03/2019 20:26

Nay, nay and thrice nay. They're all awful.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 25/03/2019 20:46

My friend has 2 cats called Wilf and Caspar Grin

Pemba · 25/03/2019 21:00

Don't like any of them.
