Think we've finally decided on a girls name.......

Mila Esme (Mee-Lah Ez-May)

Sibling is Noah. What do you all think?

Miles has an e

How about Milo?

Anyway, I think it's a fine name - plenty of names have different pronunciations and it's not a huge problem.

NannyR · 23/03/2019 17:10

I've never come across anyone called Mila, but on first sight I would assume my-la was the pronunciation. Obviously, if a parent told me it was pronounced mee-la, I would remember and use that pronunciation.

Penguin34 · 23/03/2019 17:10

I love it! Throughout my whole pregnancy I was calling baby Mila and my husband said that he didn't love it but it was my choice. I was desperate to call her Mila and when she was born he said he hated it so much he couldn't face talking people!!!! So we had to choose a new name when she was a week old.

I love the name so much I'm always suggesting it to others.

I also love the full version Milena (which he didn't like either)

Mila Kunis is actually Milena but she spells in Mila too (and def not pronounced MYla - that used to really get on my nerves people saying that)

Penguin34 · 23/03/2019 17:11

*telling people

NannyR · 23/03/2019 17:11

It is a very pretty name though.

Penguin34 · 23/03/2019 17:12

Also, it means gracious which is lovely

Expressedways · 23/03/2019 17:13

Lovely name. I know a 4YO Mila who pronounces it Mee-La and no one seems to get it wrong. If you introduce your child as Mee-La and they ignore you and pronounce it My-La then that says more about them than it does about the name!

SilviaSalmon · 23/03/2019 17:14

I would pronounce it my-la, but only until I heard/was told how parents pronounce it.

AhhhHereItGoes · 23/03/2019 17:16

I think it's pretty.
Feminine but not too cutesy.
It does sound similar ending wise to Noah but as long as that doesn't bother you it's a very unique but not out there name. :)

stellarfox · 23/03/2019 17:16

I think its a nice choice OP! However I wouldn't assume everyone will pronounce it correctly, not that that should bother you

daisypond · 23/03/2019 17:16

Mila is nice. I’m not keen on Esme though. It’s pronounced Meela. The one I know is Spanish.

FriarTuck · 23/03/2019 17:17

Mila is pronounced Meela. There is no other way to pronounce it.
And yet here we are, pronouncing it in multiple ways Hmm
I'd personally be saying Myla (like Milo) Es-me (as that's how the Esme I knew pronounced it)

C0untDucku1a · 23/03/2019 17:19

Oh fgs you tell people a name when you see them. If you text then to tell them baby’s arrival, correct them whdn you see them if they get it wrong.

And spell Esmé with the accent to ensure people pronounce it correctly. If they can’t manage it after being told, theyre just beng rude.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/03/2019 17:21

Thing. Is you will introduce her to most people orally or even if you don't initially, you'll use her name around people. People should be able to mimic your pronunciation and anyone who insists on using a different one to make a point is only making the point that they're being dicks

It's a lovely name

RaffertyFair · 23/03/2019 17:59

Mila is pronounced Meela. There is no other way to pronounce it.

I would have pronounced it mye-la - just like Lila is pronounced Lye-la

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 23/03/2019 18:06

It's very beautiful. I think because Mila Kunis is a popular actress people should pronounce it correctly with no issue. I also read Esme and Ez-may, I think there may be multiple ways to pronounce this because I've also seen it spelled Esmee. But as a middle name I wouldn't really worry about it. I think like 75% people will say it how you want! Wouldn't worry about the other 25%.

It's very lovely!

RayaJambalaya · 23/03/2019 18:37

If you have decided and you're happy, don't bother asking on here.

alonerinlona · 23/03/2019 19:05

I'd pronounce Mila like I pronounce Lila (my-la, ly-la). Maybe I'm wrong for both?

Crystalblue13 · 23/03/2019 19:17

I love the name Mila and I pronounce it Meela

Sophronia · 23/03/2019 23:26

I’m not keen on Mila, but Esme is nice.

Bumblebeesmum · 24/03/2019 01:14

I would have pronounced it wrong but I don’t think you’ll be correcting that often because they first hear the name from you
“What’s her name?” Etc
And if you have to correct someone like me - is it that big a deal?

The comment about ‘trying to import’ pronounciation is pretty ridiculous - think about how you’d pronounce Francesca & why.....

lilabet2 · 24/03/2019 01:16

Sounds pretty!

Duck90 · 24/03/2019 01:35

If it bothers you how a name is said then those are not the names to choose. If you don’t care then...

SD1978 · 24/03/2019 02:13

I'd pronounce that Mila, not Meela.

MercyBodle · 24/03/2019 04:47

It sounds very nice - congratulations on coming up with a good name! And ignore the pronunciation stuff. I have the most common, classic regular name of my decade, spelt the usual way - and still people mispronounce it all the time! Unbelievable! Just go with your lovely name and don't worry about it.
