Hello All,

I’m new here, unless I was here 14 years ago but can’t remember, officially geriatric now!
Please give your opinion on the girls name
‘Elsbeth’ as a first name? Looking to call her Betty for short...

Thank you 😊

I like it!

AssassinatedBeauty · 18/03/2019 00:31

It's a lovely name. I slightly prefer Elspeth, but that doesn't lend itself to the nickname Betty, if that's a definite requirement.

ijustdontunderstandher · 18/03/2019 00:32

I really like it

Susannach · 18/03/2019 00:42

Like it a lot

TheGirlWithGlassFeet · 18/03/2019 00:43

Love it. Traditional and well known but not overly common.

Jaxinthebox · 18/03/2019 00:44

I really like Elsbeth, but not Betty - Beth maybe?

MollyHuaCha · 18/03/2019 01:12

Elspeth is lovely.
I'm less keen on Betty.

Tavannach · 18/03/2019 01:21

Elsbeth? Mmm, maybe.
Betty as a nn I'm less keen on. It reminds me of a favourite great aunt who was truly absolutely fabulous, but it feels a bit dated now and therefore somehow staid.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 18/03/2019 01:26

I love the name Bette! I like Betina. Not a fan of the Elizabeth variations but that's just me!

ApplestheHare · 18/03/2019 03:30

Really like Elsbeth but not Betty. Makes me think of stereotypical old ladies or roller derby players.

wellhelloyou · 18/03/2019 03:47

I'm really sorry but I don't particularly warm to it. I find it hard to say and my mind turns over trying to think have I said it right. I do like what are to be considered 'old fashioned' names (my daughter has a very old name) but this one I don't particularly warm too sorry.

spreadingchestnuttree · 18/03/2019 03:49

I really like it. I prefer Beth or Bess to Betty though.

Pemba · 18/03/2019 05:33

Isn't it Elspeth with a 'p'?

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 18/03/2019 05:40

I don't love (or hate) Elsbeth but think Betty is a great name which suits all ages.

BertrandRussell · 18/03/2019 05:57

I think people will always think you/she are saying Elspeth.

FogCutter · 18/03/2019 06:49

I think she'd always be having to spell or correct her name - people will hear Elspeth or Elizabeth.

burritofan · 18/03/2019 06:59

Elsbeth is a name but Elspeth is more usual – and prettier, IMO. You can still nickname Betty from Elspeth, it's a form of Elizabeth.

Barbarafromblackpool · 18/03/2019 07:08

I have an Elspeth, people occasionally think we've said Elsbeth which I think is more popular in that states. I sometimes call my daughter Betty as a pet name.

LillyHill · 18/03/2019 07:17

Thank you all. Such a hard decision, especially to make on your own.
I do think Baby Betty is very sweet, my grandmother was a Betty you see... Couldmlater be Bets, Betsy & with Elsbeth she could go Elsie, Els.... or the full Elsbeth.
Will keep saying it in my head, see how it feels. Thanks again 😊

She can still be Betty with Elspeth, and less chance of spelling confusion.

Jaz32 · 18/03/2019 07:53

Elsbeth is ok she could also be Elsa/Elsie or Beth (all of which I prefer to Betty - sorry). I do prefer Elizabeth to Elsbeth tho x

RockinHippy · 18/03/2019 08:02

Lovely, though I too prefer Elspeth

Pieceofpurplesky · 18/03/2019 08:23

Betsy is a nicer nn

RayaJambalaya · 18/03/2019 08:34

Can't bare it! And especially dislike Betty, sorry.

bridgetreilly · 18/03/2019 09:26

Elsbeth looks and sounds like a mistake to me. Either Elspeth or Elisabeth.
