What do you think of this name for a girl? I’m surprised to see how uncommon it is! Pronounced COS-im-uh. Thanks.

I like it but I thought it was pronounced
Coh-SEE-ma

LizziesTwin · 16/03/2019 08:39

I like it & know teenage Cosimas

ThePurpleGirl · 16/03/2019 08:40

I'd never heard of it until I met a baby Cosima a couple of years ago. I thought the parents had made it up to match their older child's name which also started Co. Until your post I've never heard of it other than that one baby. It sounds a bit "new age" to me... I think it's because it reminds me of Cosmic.

frenchonion · 16/03/2019 08:40

Love it so much. I thought cosSEEma too though.

daisypond · 16/03/2019 08:53

It’s not a new age name. It’s a very old Italian name. I think it’s dated there, though, middle aged and frumpy. But it’s great to me.

Sophronia · 16/03/2019 08:54

There is a Cosima at one of the baby groups we go to. Pronounced COS-im-uh like you said. I quite like it.

TatianaLarina · 16/03/2019 08:58

Love it.

It’s COS i ma.

It’s Italian, not made up.

TatianaLarina · 16/03/2019 09:00

It’s true there are old ladies in the south called Cosima. Doesn’t mean it’s not due a revival, and it doesn’t have those connotations here.

MarthasGinYard · 16/03/2019 09:00

Love it

So posh Smile

FemalePersonator · 16/03/2019 09:01

It's a beautiful name.

I love it. DH vetoed, sadly. Only ever heard it with your pronounciation.

daisypond · 16/03/2019 09:18

Actually yes, emphasis should be on first syllable, as you suggested.

GummyGoddess · 16/03/2019 09:21

I really like it, I know a toddler with the name, nicknamed Simmy.

LividLaughLove · 16/03/2019 09:22

I know it from Orphan Black, where she’s an awesome scientist called Co-SEE-ma.

Jamhandprints · 16/03/2019 09:24

It's very, very posh. I think there's one in the Bridget Jones books. One of her posh friends. So to me it sounds very "Come along, Arabella, Cosima and Horatio, it's time for Polo practice!" Is that what you were going for?

Nnnnnineteen · 16/03/2019 09:34

I've never met one. Only one I have heard of is Nigella's daughter, who was usually Mimi if IRC when she was on the tv programme as a child.

GummyGoddess · 16/03/2019 09:37

In Bridget Jones it's a man called Cosmo that you're thinking of

firstbrightday · 16/03/2019 09:37

For me it's very very posh. I know a lot of posh Cosimas

HolyMerlot · 16/03/2019 09:39

Love it! Orphan Black!!

Would love to name any future daughter of mine Cosima but everyone knows I love the show, Cosima is a lesbian, I'm a lesbian, so I sometimes think that people would find it weird if I named my child it Hmm

BlueMerchant · 16/03/2019 09:40

Don't like it at all. I do however like your name Coco!?!

CosyCoco · 16/03/2019 10:51

Is it really that posh? I wasn’t necessarily going for that, but it doesn’t really put me off. The varying pronunciations might, but I don’t think it’s too difficult to remember once corrected.

I kind of love it Smile

I think it's pretty!

NunoGoncalves · 16/03/2019 11:31

I've never met an English one so I've no idea if it's seen as posh. But then again, I don't know any posh people so maybe that's why I've never met one! Grin

It's the name of a character in the semi-popular tv show orphan black, and is mispronounced on there as CoSEEmuh. I don't know if that could be the prevailing pronunciation among English speakers.

Pronounced COSimuh I like it a lot. I'd use it.
