Sarah

What do you think?
Too dated? Overused? Bland?

Or timeless classic, due a revival, classy, elegant?

I prefer the Sarah pronounciation and spelling to Sara.

My other option is Zara or perhaps even Lara....sense a theme going on!

Which do you prefer?

Thanks in advance

I love Sarah, a classic imho and definitely due a revival.
I may be biased though as I know a few Sarahs (in my 40s) and they are all fabulous, warm, funny women.

BlueMerchant · 15/03/2019 08:45

I love classic, timeless names and want to say I love Sarah- but I don't. I think where I live it was just too common years ago and every woman 35-40 around here is called Sarah/Sara.
I do really like Zara.

foxtiger · 15/03/2019 08:46

My all-time favourite girl's name. I would definitely have used it for a DD (DH was totally on board too) but we only had boys. It might not be very popular at the moment but I don't think it sounds actively old-fashioned, in the way that something like Karen or Michelle might, because there was no one time when it was massively fashionable.

hazandduck · 15/03/2019 08:50

Not a fan. I went to school with lots of them (I’m 30.)
Love Lara and Zara. They are gorgeous IMO.

Marlena1 · 15/03/2019 08:50

Love Lara and Zara is lovely too. Think they are nicer

OutwithMyRemit · 15/03/2019 08:51

I like it and think it's a classic.

Also like Zara, but not Lara.

Singlenotsingle · 15/03/2019 08:52

Sarah? Lovely name!

donajimena · 15/03/2019 08:55

Its a beautiful name. When I was at baby clinic around 15 years ago there was a mother there with a baby Sarah and I thought how lovely it was in a world of Olivias and Poppys at the time.

Carrotsticksandhummus · 15/03/2019 09:01

Thanks everyone.

I was quite set on having a Zara Elizabeth.
Or potentially Lara Elizabeth.

But I saw on Facebook a distant friend had just named her daughter Sarah. And I was so surprised. I haven’t seen a baby Sarah for years. And it suddenly felt fresh in my eyes. It appeared so classic and timeless, and the way its pronounced felt so...musical? I had never noticed it before.
And now for me Zara seemed so “trendy” in comparison and stark.

I’m probably just doubting myself or comparing...

I think it's an ugly sounding name and I don't like the H at the end
Zara is nice though

fleshmarketclose · 15/03/2019 09:03

I love Sarah, the youngest one I know is 18. I wanted to name dd1 Sarah, dh didn't like it though.

glitterbiscuits · 15/03/2019 09:06

Definitely a classic
Use it. I haven't heard of a baby Sarah in ages.
I also like Lara and Zara.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/03/2019 09:07

Sarah is fab.

pilates · 15/03/2019 09:10

Zara Elizabeth is beautiful

BestBeforeYesterday · 15/03/2019 09:10

Zara and Lara are trendy and risk sounding outdated in the future. Sarah is a classic, timeless and beautiful name.

HeritageCarrot · 15/03/2019 09:11

I’m a nearly 60 one. I remember my DM saying my grandma didn’t want her to call me it as it was ‘old fashioned’ and suggested Sally as it was more modern. I do think Sally would have dated more than Sarah. I like the name it’s just there are so many of us older ones around. But not little ones so you could look at it as a revival. There’s no doubt it’s classic as are other Old Testament names so I’d go for it.

Sakura7 · 15/03/2019 09:14

It is a lovely name but totally overused in my generation (mid thirties). I know many Sarahs and Saras.

However, it's not that popular now so it would sound fresh on your DD. If you love it, use it.

A friend of mine recently had a baby Laura, and I thought it was lovely to see the name have a new lease of life.

Leah is a similar style as well, but was never as popular.

StealthPolarBear · 15/03/2019 09:15

Yes I think it's lovely.

firstbrightday · 15/03/2019 09:18

I've never liked it, I think it's really boring. I feel like every second person born in the 80s is called Sarah

IHeartKingThistle · 15/03/2019 09:20

Love it.

DramaAlpaca · 15/03/2019 09:20

It's lovely, an elegant classic, due a revival I think. I also love Zara, and Sara.

I was supposed to be a Sarah, but my cousin was born just before me & was given the name. My parents had to rethink as the surname was the same. I got landed with a name that I hate, and my parents can't have liked it much either as they've always called me by my middle name. I still wish I'd been a Sarah & I'm in my 50s now Grin

Almahart · 15/03/2019 09:21

I love it and have never understood why it is no longer used.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 15/03/2019 09:21

I think it's boring but it's my name and has been for 38 years,I don't dislike it as such it's just soo common for women of my age.Maybe it's due a comeback?

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 15/03/2019 09:22

Lovely name, and I don't know any tiny ones.

BadTigerKitty · 15/03/2019 09:26

Lovely name. Know a few little ones with the name. Let's see... definitely a one year old, 3 eight year olds and a ten year old.
