Sarah

What do you think?
Too dated? Overused? Bland?

Or timeless classic, due a revival, classy, elegant?

I prefer the Sarah pronounciation and spelling to Sara.

My other option is Zara or perhaps even Lara....sense a theme going on!

Which do you prefer?

Thanks in advance

I love it. It’s totally un-trendy and classic. I know two wee Sarahs who were born last year.

eddiemairswife · 15/03/2019 09:50

I have one. She is in her 50s. It was my mother's middle name, her grandmother's name, my husband's grandma's name and my granddaughter's middle name.

Loyaultemelie · 15/03/2019 10:05

I have an almost 9 year old Sarah so I'm in the love it camp

daisypond · 15/03/2019 10:18

It’s a nice classic name that’s been out of fashion for a while. Due a comeback.

aliceandkids77 · 15/03/2019 10:28

Don't really like Sarah, is v boring imo and a mum name. I think Zara and Lara are both much nicer! go with what you love tho x

Jolonglegs · 15/03/2019 10:31

Sarah is a lovely name: I know some and they're all delightful people!

Plumplump · 15/03/2019 11:06

I have a Sarah, she is 3. Everyone loves her name, it is classic, timeless, ageless and I have honestly never met a Sarah I don't like!

Justus22 · 15/03/2019 11:26

It means Princess 💗. It was number one girls name for many years in the 80's and I don't know a single person under 25 that has the name now so I guess it ticks both boxes for a child today, it's well liked but not common as it was back then. X

Kokeshi123 · 15/03/2019 11:49

Great name. Go for it!

Carrotsticksandhummus · 15/03/2019 13:39

Thanks everyone.

I’m trying to imagine Sarah Elizabeth...but it seems a bit mumsy to me. Perhaps Sara Elizabeth is more youthful. I’m not sure, I think I need time to think about it.

I wouldn't worry how it looks with the middle name, as she'll barely use it anyway. Think of the name on its own and pick the spelling you prefer.

Be aware that if you go with Sara, people will spell her name wrong constantly. And may pronounce her name differently (like sah-rah).

LucyFox · 15/03/2019 16:29

I like Sarah - the youngest I know is 11
Classic & underused

I have a Sarah Elizabeth! Not double barelled though . Just Sarah with Elizabeth as a middle name. I just love it ( obviously ).

Raera · 15/03/2019 16:36

I prefer Sara and also like Clara or Claire

Shadow1234 · 15/03/2019 16:37

Sarah is a lovely name, but I do prefer Sara (pronounced the same way as zara, but with the softer 's' as opposed to the 'z', if that makes sense.

Pemba · 15/03/2019 16:40

It's still a lovely name, although it was so popular in the 60s, 70s (and 80s?) Also l like the Sara spelling (from reading 'A Little Princess' as a child). I always thought when I was young that i would name my daughter that, but when it came to it I chose something else.

The only trouble is you will get a lot of people pronouncing it 'Sah-ra' to rhyme with Zara, this is also a legitimate pronunciation. But with Sara Pascoe and Sara Cox around maybe it won't be that hard to convince people that 'Sara' can be said the same as 'Sarah'.

I do like the 'Sarah' spelling as well though.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/03/2019 16:44

Love it. It’s my name.

It’s due a revival. I was thinking that Hannah, is equally due for a revival.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 15/03/2019 16:58

Timeless classic.
It's SO much better than Sara or Zara!

Carrotsticksandhummus · 15/03/2019 19:51

Yes, I’ve got a lot to think about now!

I think what’s beautiful about sarah is that it’s so versatile. It’s not an “old lady name” but not a cutesy baby name either.
It does fit every age, and works perfectly at any profession.

And also every Sarah I’ve met has always liked their name!

Though Zara in my mind also feels so striking and also classy.

I’ll have a discussion with the DH and see. I think I’ve confused myself! Haha

I love the name Sarah. It would be so refreshing to see a baby Sarah these days.

ScreamingValenta · 15/03/2019 20:42

One of my favourite names of all time. A great choice if you go for it.

Sakura7 · 15/03/2019 21:32

I could see it getting popular again in about 15-20 years, so she'll be ahead of the curve! I don't think it's like those granny names that take 80 years to come round again, it will have popular periods with breaks in between. Maybe not quite reaching the highs of the 80s though!

MightyAtlantic · 15/03/2019 21:42

It's one of my favourite names. I think it is classic, and much nicer than Zara.

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 15/03/2019 21:49

Oh it’s the dullest name ever. I think I prefer Susan to Sarah.
Lara Elizabeth is beautiful. Like Russian princess beautiful without the frills
