Hi ladies,

I am expecting my second daughter.
I haven’t shared with family or friends by chosen baby name, but decided to tell my work colleagues as they don’t mix with my family or friends.

One colleague mentioned something about my baby name that’s really affected me, and makes me want to change it.

The name is Amelie.

I’ve liked the name since I was young.

The colleague said it was a faddy name because it comes from a movie and that it’s chavvy where she’s from!?

Is it really chavvy?? This point really makes me want think of a new name.

I don’t understand why names from movies are faddy... Aurora from sleeping beauty is still popular. And Lara from Lara Croft isn’t “faddy”. And both Aurora and Lara aren’t chavvy...are they?

Is Amelie chavvy to you?

Thanks

My DD was always going to be called Tabitha. I told colleagues st work like you, but not family. One colleague, with two boys said 'oh you can't call her that it's a cats name,' which I wasn't bothered about become I love cats and I love the name too but felt she was being very negative in her words

Randomly, after she was born and another
Conversation was being had with other colleagues, same person said 'oh I love that name, it was going I be the name of my child if one of my boys had been a girl'

Sometimes people say things they don't mean because of jealousy, or because they're trying to put you off

Amelie is a lovely name

Not chavvy at all, my close friend has an Amelie and she's a darling. One of my favourite names too! Don't be discouraged if you love it! x

It's also really not popular and this discussion comes up so frequently on here. Why do people claim a name to be popular without consulting facts?
names.darkgreener.com/#amelie Number 72 last year cannot be considered 'popular'

It can in certain areas though. That doesn’t account for individual towns where you do sometimes get name trends that differ.

Also, I think some names stand out more when there are more of them. No one would probably notice 2 or 3 Emilys in a baby group or whatever but because Amelie has risen in popularity recently, a couple of those would stand out.

Yes, a bit naff/cheesy more than chavvy perhaps.
