Initials BO

I'm pregnant with our second boy, and both my DH and I love the name Ben, but our surname begins with an O. We stayed away from B names with our first (as did others in the family), but are wondering if it would actually be okay, figuring that if kids are going to tease someone they'll find something. But then, I don't want to hand them an easy way to tease my son and would feel awful if he was teased for it. He would have a middle name, so could use 3 initials if necessary. We cannot come up with any other names we like!

What do others think? Anyone experienced this directly?

I think if you read BO without saying it it's okay but when reading aloud I think it may set his classmates off?
My friend's dds initials are BJ (awful I know) and she's 11 and hasn't got any teasing for it.
I think it's not too much of a problem especially if you are set on the name Ben (which is gorgeous BTW!) good luck x

Saw a baby being called today at the doctors, their initial were BO but I never noticed at the time. I only pay attention to my initials when they crop up in a username that I have been allocated.

Sorry but it's a no from me. Kids can be very mean and BO really stands out as an unfortunate combination of initials. Even with a middle name, at school he will only be known as and the kids will notice the BO reference.

No

I thought BO was a bit of a dated term - not ones kids nowadays would use, but it might be one of those area specific things. I never hear it anymore.

AnnaSparks · 12/03/2019 16:15

Can you add a middle name to solve the problem?

I think it’s fine. I went to school with someone who had those initials and he didn’t get mocked though his nickname was “Bo” which was quite cool. His real first name was Benson.

Don't do it. I went to primary school with a boy with the initials BO. Kids used to tease him about it al the time.

Thanks all. TBH I can't remember the last time I heard someone use the term B.O. so I may be overthinking it but I'll keep thinking of other names just in case. If we do go with Ben, I'll just have to make sure that he showers regularly!

My daughter is ASS. I didn't think that one through. Blush

DuchessOfPhysics · 12/03/2019 18:03

I really wouldn't. If it's like Brian O'Driscoll, ok, that's BOD really but if it's really just BO then you are fooling yourself that it's ''ok''.

It's not ok.

The child with initials ''BJ'' - maybe nobody has slagged her about it YET but they will. And I bet when she was born, everybody that noted her initials would have been wondering why the parents let that one slip through the net.
