Thoughts on Kathleen?

I know it's a very Enid Blyton type of name.

I used to imagine it as a very old name, but I saw a baby "Kathy" on Instagram recently so perhaps it's ready for a resurgence!

helterskelter3 · 10/03/2019 19:35

I love this name. My DH was against it, but I would have gone for it in a heartbeat!

SallyWD · 10/03/2019 19:35

It's lovely

WhatNow40 · 10/03/2019 19:36

Please don't. It's awful. Really.

NuffSaidSam · 10/03/2019 19:37

It's from that era that is old lady, but not so old lady that it's 'old lady chic'.

It goes with Linda, Carol, Maureen, Pauline, Denise.

But you could start a trend....they could be the new Agnes, Ethel, Maud type names.

I don't like it though. It just screams 'dinner lady' to me!

Jenniferyellowcat · 10/03/2019 19:38

I like it. It says 50s Ireland to me.

MintyCedric · 10/03/2019 19:38

I think it's lovely.

That said, my mum's Kathleen and my life-long best friend is Kathy so I might be slightly biased!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/03/2019 19:40

Its a good name. However its quite unusual now. I'd assume it was after your mum nan or aunt, so Be ready for the how did you choose Kathleen questions 1000 times a day. That's the first thing I.ask when I hear an unusual name. Grin.
I've met a little Donna (Named after her Auntie)
and a Colin (named after his dad)

Ceebs85 · 10/03/2019 19:42

My name is Katherine but I really don't like Kathleen

weegiemum · 10/03/2019 19:43

My super-cool 19 year old dd is Kathy, but she's a Katherine. I do like Kathleen though.

RescueRemedy21 · 10/03/2019 19:44

It's an awesome name!

Susannach · 10/03/2019 19:44

Not keen, sorry. I do like Katherine and even quite like Kathy, but I can’t get behind any of the “een” names.

LostwithSawyer · 10/03/2019 19:44

Awful.

DramaAlpaca · 10/03/2019 19:45

No, it's awful. It's a 1930's Irish granny name that's not ready for a revival.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 10/03/2019 19:47

I love it! It was my grandmother's nanme, but she was born in 1907 so I reckon it's ready to return. The only thing against it would be the more recent peak popularity of Caitlin, basically the same name.

firawla · 10/03/2019 19:48

I like it!

whiskeysourpuss · 10/03/2019 19:48

It was my great aunts name & I know 2 who are 28 one goes by Katie & the other by Kat.

I actually don't mind it but that might be because I know a couple it's not too unusual to me.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 10/03/2019 19:50

And as far as being an Irish granny name, yes it is, but there is a swarm of baby Ita/Una/Sadhbh/etcs, so that needn't put anyone off.

Haveacupofcoffee · 10/03/2019 19:50

I really don’t like Kathy - eastenders ruined it for me!

youllhavehadyourtea · 10/03/2019 19:51

Kirsten?

gambaspilpil · 10/03/2019 19:52

I have an Aunt Kathleen and never met another... I like the name

Peachbubble · 10/03/2019 20:19

It's lovely, I know one who's also called Kitty.

CatSmize · 10/03/2019 20:40

Awful.

missyB1 · 10/03/2019 20:43

It’s my middle name and I love it. It’s my mum’s first name, she is known as Kath. Go for it a baby Kathleen would be cute!
