Which would you prefer? Any any other suggestions? X

It also reminds me of the famous serial killer although I know he was Brady

Another option you might want to consider is longer names that give them options but you can still use the names you really like as nicknames. For example:
Bruno Dylan
Brendan Toby

Byron Jude
Ben Roland
Christian
Clarence
Claud Mason

Names that might appeal;
Casper
Conrad
Corbin

I don't like the meaning eitherHmm

mumm321 · 06/03/2019 20:40

Does people actually care about the meanings?? It isn't something that I would think about when picking a name.

OP posts:
BlueMerchant · 06/03/2019 20:43

I suppose everyone's different. It is something I considered when choosing names though. I always hated my name meaning.

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 06/03/2019 21:00

Psssst, OP. If Brodie is the name you love, call your son Brodie. It really doesn't matter what people on the internet think Smile

BorsetshireBlew · 06/03/2019 21:26

People put all kinds of crap in baby names books, doesn't mean it's a commonly recognised name. Cason is horrible but Brody is ok.

talktoo · 06/03/2019 21:35

Both are fairly awful faddy names. Think of names that were popular when you were young. You would never use them now. For me it was Kevin, Tracy, Debbie, Craig, Susan. That's what your names will be in 40 years. Urgh.

cstaff · 06/03/2019 21:39

My sister has a dog called Brodie and my work colleague has a girl called Brodie Grin.

Never heard of Cason.

Bumblebeesmum · 06/03/2019 21:39

Any name you pick someone will hate. I don’t like either name but Brodie certainly isn’t the worst I’ve seen on here. Someone wanted to name their kid tree Confused

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 06/03/2019 21:40

Compared to Rupert or Wilfred, Brodie sounds pretty good to me!

MillicentMartha · 06/03/2019 21:45

Brody isn’t to my taste, but it’s OK. Really dislike Cason. Sorry OP.

reallyanotherone · 06/03/2019 21:47

*How has a surname like Goodwillie not died out? grin

Passing a horror like that on to some poor baby is crime against humanity! (only slight exaggeration).*

Willing to bet the women they marry have even worse/harder to spell surnames Grin.

The meaning of names is very important to me.

Divgirl2 · 06/03/2019 22:28

You sound young OP. Call the kid whatever you want, we'll never meet them so it doesn't really matter how much we hate the names you've picked.

For what it's worth I don't like surname first names (confusingly my very traditional surname is also a fairly traditional unisex first name - so I have had a lifetime of having to clarify that the name I have just given someone (eg. when making a reservation) is, in fact, my surname (drives me mad when I've said "my surname is [surname]" and they respond with "sorry, I was asking for your surname").

I'd say name meanings are quite important too.

mumm321 · 06/03/2019 23:28

@Divgirl2 yes I'm youngBlush I'm only 17

MillicentMartha · 06/03/2019 23:45

Hey, mumm321 we’re probably all old enough to be your mum. We’ll probably not have the same taste in names as you, we’re mostly old fogies! Go with what you like. Brody is fine. (Still don’t like Cason! Wink )

cstaff · 06/03/2019 23:51

Jeez 17 and you're asking a shower of oul ones Grin on here.

TildaTurnip · 07/03/2019 00:34

I think that name meaning can be important for many and your son may see it as important so for that reason consider the meanings.

Have you liked any of the ideas others on this thread have thought of?

Congratulations!

OwlBeThere · 07/03/2019 00:40

I know a couple of Cason’s, spelt Kasen and Kayson I think.
I prefer Brodie.
No point asking on here though OP on mumsnet the only acceptable names are Alfred and William and the like.

ViserionTheDragon · 07/03/2019 00:47

Congratulations Op. Brodie might be ok but Carson sounds made up, sorry. Are there any other contenders?

dreichuplands · 07/03/2019 01:25

Honestly Brodie is a perfectly normal name, the use of surnames as first names is much more common in Scotland and perfectly normal in the US.
I know a Brodie, who was named by older middle class parents who suits his name really well.

RiverTam · 07/03/2019 09:08

I can tell you with some authority that a lot of the names in that book are nonsense.

JRMisOdious · 07/03/2019 09:12

If Cason is your own creation, apologies but really don’t like it.

Brodie would depend on the surname, I think, if it’s a Scottish one it would work.

JRMisOdious · 07/03/2019 09:19

@Divgirl2 yes I'm youngblush I'm only 17“

Oh, feeling really rotten now for disliking Cason, sorry 💐😁

Personally, think one of the most important things is how well the first and surnames sound together.
Also, will the name you choose suit the little one at all ages and circumstances. Eg: once knew a Rocky. Quite cute on a 5 year old but wondered how he’d feel going for that management or senior army job in 20 years 😁 also, might be a tad inappropriate when he’s toddling along aged 90.

Anyway, congratulations. Brodie’s growing on me.

IggyPoppers · 07/03/2019 09:24

Broderick on the BC using "Brodie". Cason is fine but will get shortened to Case. Maybe Logan, Lachlan or Dashel?
