I already have a little girl called Evelyn ( Evie for short).

I'm thinking of calling her sister Isla

What do you think?
Any pitfalls I should be aware off? ( I didn't know there were 2 pronunciations of Evelyn for example)
Any suggestions/ alternatives to go with Evelyn?

Other than the fact that it's a very popular name at the minute I can't think of any (and given DD1 is Evie I doubt you're too worried about that).
I know Islas in their 30s and Islas 6 months old so it's stood the test of time up here (Scotland).

I'm a teacher and I've never taught an Evelyn but since I've named my daughter.... I come across so many!

Interesting point about Isla being popular.

Anyone have a less popular alternative?

I love Isla, and don't mind it's meant to be popular.
I love Evelyn too.

Just a thought. I think if my first DC had a longer first name and a shorter nickname, I think I would have liked my second to follow a similar pattern. (Not sure Isla does)
So id be thinking perhaps, Isabella/Bella? Julianne/Jules? Etc

I'm in central Scotland and I know personally 4 Islas under school age and know of several more. It's a lovely name, but it's really really popular in some areas, if that bothers you.

Other similar options I can think of are Skye, Alisa, Rhona, Iona, Ailbhe (Alva).

Agree with PP on Ailsa - beautiful alternative with a very similar feel to it. Skye is a bit chavvy where I am (but if you're not in Scotland it might not be), I also really like Iona.

I agree very popular right now so potentially a few in her class when she starts school!

Ivy? Although that's quite popular too. Ailsa is nice too I like that suggestion ^^

Isla is great, I suppose you might get the odd person that thinks it's "is-la" but that seems unlikely. Other names that would sound nice with Evelyn:
Tessa
Alice
Meredith
Francesca
Astrid
