Is James a classic strong name or boring

Everyone seems to be picking unusual baby names these days which makes me concerned that James is just too boring. I think its a strong, handsome name but I could be wrong. Your thoughts would be really appreciated. Thanks

I can't believe some people have never met a child called James! I know loads of them.

Thank you everyone. You have helped me so much. Really so much. Your comments have made me smile. All of them xxxxx

Classic, strong. And bizarrely I only know one James under about 35.

Sakura7 · 02/03/2019 16:12

It's my dad's name and I also know a few younger ones. It's a classic name but that doesn't make it boring. It holds up well throughout a person's life which is more than can be said for the more faddy names.

CloserIAm2Fine · 02/03/2019 16:39

It’s lovely and classic, you can imagine James being any age and on seeing just the name you wouldn’t know what age he was.

bluebabydinosaur · 02/03/2019 17:07

Hi Switsy, I just wondered where you live roughly? I know there are a lot of people called James in Ireland.

Love the name James, not boring at all but DS1 is called that so may be a bit biased Grin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/03/2019 16:31

Well its both. Its dull and boring. However its also classic, and while its popular. Its not faddy. It belongs in all brackets and classes.
Therefore I think its got more going for it than against it

spaniorita · 06/03/2019 16:33

My ds' middle names are James Matthew. Love them both. Go for it!

Antonin · 06/03/2019 17:12

I love it.

honeyman · 06/03/2019 17:15

Lovely name. Do not like when it is shortened to Jim !

Bumblebeesmum · 06/03/2019 17:31

Sorry when I said I have one who’s almost 7 & we’d never met another I meant children so Nursery, school, gymnastics & swimming classes etc. I know several adults myself.

elephantoverthehill · 06/03/2019 17:36

I have a James, he was named after his GGF on my side and his GF on his Dad's side. It certainly spans the generations.

mrsdavys · 08/03/2019 18:33

I don’t like James but I do love traditional royal and biblical names.
DD aged 17 has about 4 James/Jamie’s in one class at school alone but that may not be the case with younger classes

Melonwater · 09/03/2019 08:43

Very boring and overused. Sorry. So many other classic names that are nicer.

JenSFP · 09/03/2019 10:31

Good strong solid traditional and very smart name

Sessy19 · 09/03/2019 10:32

Boring. And a bit limp. Like Joshua. I think it’s past it’s best. There are so many names out there, the recycling of old names just seems so uninspired

Bananalanacake · 09/03/2019 10:37

My ex DP was a Scottish James, he told me it's the law in Scotland to name all first born sons James, was he winding me up?
Gordon Brown is a James, Gordon is his middle name and he called both of his sons James but obviously I can't go by a few examples.

NunoGoncalves · 09/03/2019 11:08

It's classic and strong AND boring IMO.

ThatsNotIt · 09/03/2019 11:10

James is a classic strong name. It wont seem to old for him growing up, and it wont seem too young for him when he is older.

I like some of these "fashionable" new names but you can't beat the classics, and the classics are quite rare these days in themselves so it's win win

aliceandkids77 · 09/03/2019 12:00

I adore the name James, don’t think its boring at all, classic & timeless.

Vestlandet · 09/03/2019 16:14

Beautiful name :-) I would chose if Norwegian part of family could pronounce it!

AliceAforethought · 09/03/2019 22:00

Er, yes he was! But I’ve always had the impression that James was a little more common in Scotland; maybe because we had so many king Jameses!

OP, James is a wonderful name, timeless, classic, strong and solid.

Ihavealwaysknown · 09/03/2019 22:18

Classic! DD (1) is bffs with a William, James and Thomas. All classic, beautiful names

Wedgiecar58 · 11/03/2019 16:14

i love it, strong and classic. It's a contender for my future DS.

People saying it has great nn potential, please do share. I can't think of any others and Jamie or Jimmy/Jim.
