Is James a classic strong name or boring

Everyone seems to be picking unusual baby names these days which makes me concerned that James is just too boring. I think its a strong, handsome name but I could be wrong. Your thoughts would be really appreciated. Thanks

Timeless name can't go wrong with it...

123Flopsy · 01/03/2019 16:16

I find it a bit dull, sorry.

It also doesn't travel well into other languages, but this may not bother you.

Quintella · 01/03/2019 17:39

It's classic as well as being boring tbh.

Quintella · 01/03/2019 17:42

It’s a good, classic name and these days not so common, so your son is unlikely to become James F or whatever in school.

I think it's still up there in the naming charts. Not top 10, but in the top 20.

chocatoo · 01/03/2019 17:47

I like it. Lots of options to shorten, etc. too

DramaAlpaca · 01/03/2019 18:34

It's my absolute favourite boys' name.

APurpleSquirrel · 01/03/2019 18:37

James was on our short list for DS, really like it but went for Rowan instead.

CountFosco · 01/03/2019 18:40

Loads of possible nicknames too. Jim, Jimmy, Cheemo, Jamie, etc

I think only a very northern part of the country where J is pronounced Ch use Cheemo as a NN of James Grin. The other issue with James is you have to decide how to add as 's' on the end. There's James', James's and Jameses.

Blankscreen · 01/03/2019 18:48

I've got a James and I love the name.

Another nice similar style names is David but I think the nicknames for James are nicer than Dave

daisypond · 01/03/2019 18:55

I really like it, one of my favourite boys' names.

Gobletoffire · 01/03/2019 18:57

A lovely, classic name

haverhill · 01/03/2019 19:00

Love it. Know several ranging from 89 to 12.

OvO · 01/03/2019 19:08

I have one.

Despite being Scottish and apparently every second boy (slight exaggeration) being called James according to statistics we rarely meet other ones.

He was the only one at primary and now at High School out of 600 pupils there’s only 1 other.

Obviously I think it’s a strong, classic name. 😁

lashy · 01/03/2019 19:28

James is a beautiful, timeless name and was always my favourite for a boy.
My first born is a boy but I (we) ended up picking a name which had not even been on our 'list of potential names'.. still begins with a J coincidently, an old name but also quite cool too. I've no idea why James fell by the wayside. I love my Son's name very much, but always wonder why I didn't stick with James - the name I had loved. If you like it, go with it - go with your gut instinct.

Canshopwillshop · 01/03/2019 19:29

It’s a perfect name.

Bellaposey · 01/03/2019 19:57

Classic strong name which will never go out of style for good reason .

cptartapp · 01/03/2019 20:13

Bit of both, but 1000 times better than all the Charlies, , Freddies, Alfies, Albies, Archies, Ollies....

RubyRed85 · 02/03/2019 07:18

I think it's really dull, sorry.... but then I'm not a fan of any of the adult ones I know so that may be why. If you like it go for it.

JeSuisPrest · 02/03/2019 07:28

Love it. Was our choice for a boys name but we had a girl and that was 8 years ago. Would still use it today.

Absolute classic and where I live it would really stand out against the Hayden, Jaydens, Kaydens, Charlie's, Harleys and Marleys.

Bumblebeesmum · 02/03/2019 10:14

I have one and I love it - we’ve also never met another & he’s nearly 7

Starryskiesinthesky · 02/03/2019 10:19

I find it dull and agree Jamie is not a good adult name.

KissingInTheRain · 02/03/2019 10:31

“Boring” and “dull” on this board means, in the real world, “you are considering a sensible name for your child that no one will scoff at and most will like”.

Take heart OP. If it’s judged dull on MN you’ve chosen well. James is an ace name.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/03/2019 10:43

My full-on Victorian great grandfather was a James and it suited him. My teenage son is a James and it suits him. A friend has a tiny gorgeous baby called James.

It's a timeless classic

peeree · 02/03/2019 10:44

I like it and hate when it's shortened.

Whereareyouspot · 02/03/2019 10:46

It’s a classic name but I see it as a bit wet tbh
Not strong really
