So have struggled finding a girl's name me and DH actually agree on but mentioned the name Elsie and we both really like it but had few people (older) say it's a old person's name ! I think it goes with all ages is it a generational thing that perceives it as old? Just after opinions on the name and also would love to use my mum's name Janet as a middle name I think that goes but again worried it makes the name sound older ?
Also boys name we were kind of set on but what are poeple opions in the names below ?

Basically after opions on:

Girl name: Elsie

With Middle name: Elsie Janet

Boys name: Callum
With middle name: Callum William or Thomas (is William to many 'ms' if that makes sense ! )

FYI last name White.

Looking for opinions and ideas think I've overthought now I don't know what sounds good and what doesn't Confused help !!

Elsie is very common popular at the moment!
But it is a love name and I do like the pairing with the traditional 'Janet'
Also love Callum Thomas
Callum William has to many L's

MamaDane · 28/02/2019 19:47

Elsie is nice. Not keen on Callum but if you choose that one it should be Callum Thomas as Callum William doesn't flow too well.

In my opinion of course Grin

QueenGoblin · 28/02/2019 19:53

Elsie is popular at the moment and fits with current name trends ('old' people names) so I wouldn't worry about using it.

Callum Thomas White flows much nicer than Callum William White.

NuffSaidSam · 28/02/2019 19:54

I'm not keen on Elsie. It is an old lady name, but we're in the era of old lady names being super popular. I think it will date badly along with all the Enid's, Ethel's and Agnes's.

Also not keen on Janet, but lovely that's it's your mum's name I think

I like Callum a lot. Callum Thomas is lovely. Callum William has too many L's and M's.

Icklepup · 28/02/2019 20:04

Elsie Janet and Callum Thomas sound great.

Toodleoopuddle · 28/02/2019 20:15

As above Elsie is popular you'll probably have a couple in their class at school. But it is cute, I like it.

indigo13 · 28/02/2019 20:40

It's boring, sorry. That's only because it's so overused, it's actually quite nice hence it has got so common

CloserIAm2Fine · 28/02/2019 20:44

It’s nice, and old lady names are very popular st the moment so wont feel out of place with her peers.

CoddledAsAMommet · 28/02/2019 20:49

The world does not need another Elsie.

BlueMerchant · 28/02/2019 20:54

Like Elsie prefer Elsa. Suit all ages imo.
Don't like Janet but it's unlikely to be used too often and it's lovely having it as part of name.
Callum Thomas is a lovely name. I don't like William and Callum together.

Mmmhmmokdear · 28/02/2019 21:00

I really like Elsie.

However if you're put off it, I can think of a few similar names:

Elsa
Elise
Elisa
Elspeth
Eliza
Esme
Elara

babylatts · 28/02/2019 21:15

Very biased as I have a 2yr old Elsie and absolutely love her name. She was named after my great grandmother so I guess you could call it an old ladies name but so are most popular names these days. We had so many compliments on her name when she was born too.

Supercalafradulistic · 28/02/2019 21:20

Thanks guys helpful to get others opinions didn't realise Elsie was on trend at the moment was worried about the opposite to be honest Hmm it's the first name my husband agreed on with me !

My top 3 names were

Alyssa /Alysia
Zara
Cara

But hubby not keen

And for the boys we've only really got the one we've agreed on too so more suggestions welcome ! Looking for a breakthrough haha do love Elsie though just worried maybe teenage years not as suited but figured shortned to Elle ? I've definitely spent too long with my head in a baby book Confused thanks for the help so far !!

Maxwell
Daniel

Lampy123 · 28/02/2019 21:38

I like Elsie. Maybe Cadyen or Caleb instead of Callum.

LucyFox · 28/02/2019 21:38

Elsie is nice - I think Elsie Janette/Jeanette somehow sounds better than Elsie Janet
Callum William not so good with both ending in M but tbh few people ever use the full name! Callum Thomas is good :)

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/02/2019 21:56

Elsie Janet? Please don’t do that to your DD.

Thomas is ok, Callum is dated.

DramaAlpaca · 28/02/2019 22:01

I like Callum Thomas.

I'm sorry but I really dislike Elsie. I'm not a fan of granny chic names at all, and it's also a bit on the cutesy side for me. But your child, your choice & all that.

I'm not mad on Janet either, but I do like your reasons for using it.

Supercalafradulistic · 28/02/2019 22:04

LucyFox - thanks I like the suggestion of Janette instead as does have a softer tone to it and still includes her full name.

GreatDuckCookery - curious is it the combination of the two you are referring to or the whole name I.e. Elsie or Janet that you dislike or the combination? Was worried I was getting so hung up on using mum's name in there that was overlook it sounding nice but thought this name kind of went ?

ReturnofSaturn · 28/02/2019 22:08

Love Zara, I'd go for that.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/02/2019 22:54

If you like those names then don’t be put off by me OP. I’m not keen on Elsie and Janet isn’t my thing either but obviously if it’s your mums name then it will mean a lot to you, so it’s more the sentiment.

MercyBodle · 28/02/2019 23:41

Elsie was an 'old lady's name' and now it's current and popular. I think it's very sweet and appealing, and I totally get why you would love it. It's currently no 28 in UK popularity lists (so not as popular as Lily, Evie and Ivy). Being popular is not a big deal for everyone and shouldn't put you off using the name you love.

I really like Elsie Janet and the meaning it has for you. I like that Janet is unexpected in the middle, and is such a solid name going back centuries of popular use. Interesting that despite a long history it's not a current name so as a consequence it gets negative feedback on a forum like this, but personally I don't think you should be put off by that.

I really like Callum too. I know that it was more used in past decades, but it's one that lasts for me. Callum Thomas sounds great with your surname.

KirstyT11 · 01/03/2019 12:32

I think Elsie is lovely. I love all the 'old lady' names... but my hubby doesn't. Love Zara and cara too. Callum is a lovely name too... cant help you with suggestions for boys as struggling with them too 🙈

We have cara on our shortlist as only name hubby agreed on me with.

MumUnderTheMoon · 04/03/2019 09:27

Elsie is lovely it's a diminutive of Elspeth I'm not sure that it goes with Janet though. Is Janet a family name it's a diminutive of Jane I think Elsie Jane is nicer even Elsie-Jane as a first name.
Callum is great but not with William they sound a bit samey at the end.
