Nicknames for Ariadne?

I suspect I may be a frequent poster on this board over the next few months! DH and I our struggling to find a girls name we both like after finding out our second baby is going to be another girl (we struggled finding a name for DD we both liked too!)

We quite like Ariadne, but with four syllables I think it's likely to get shortened, and I can't think of a short version I like. The only thing that comes to mind is Ari - like 'Harry' with a dropped 'H' which isn't good! I know you can't entirely control for nicknames, but I think if we can find one we like and occasionally use, it's more likely that that will get adopted rather than something random we don't like - at least on the balance of probabilities!

So: what are some other likely shortenings?

Ada?
Adie?

The Ariadne I know goes by Ari, which like you say is the obvious nick name.
Maybe something like Aria. Ria. Riri
Ri. Addy. That's all I can think of.

Adni possibly? Yaddi?

Some shortenings just happen and you can never predict them! I know a girl called Yoyo. Her actual name is Jolena.

Riri and/or Addy i could live with!

Hmmm. Actually, I like Addy - it's growing on me. Glad I posted!

I would pronounce Ari as 'aah-ri' with a longer aah (like the letter r) sound.

JimJamJarmusch · 21/02/2019 21:53

If I saw it written just as "Ari" I'd probably say ah-ri too - but as a short version of Ariadne then unfortunately I think people are more likely to just lop off the last two syllables and pronounce it that way.

I really like Addie and that's what I'd go with!

Sophronia · 21/02/2019 22:36

Addie

Kokeshi123 · 21/02/2019 23:44

Addy or Annie.

It's a lovely name!

Aridane · 21/02/2019 23:50

Aridane?? Grin

Antonin · 22/02/2019 01:18

Adny
Adnie

reeny19 · 22/02/2019 11:07

It’s a name I’m considering too, but not 100% sure if I’ll use it.

If we did, DH would call her Ari as a nickname whereas I’d use Ads. I can also see Danni as a potential nickname.

WarpedGalaxy · 22/02/2019 17:25

Addy mostly because the stress naturally falls on -ad in Ari-AD-ne. I actually quite like Ari with a flat vowel too, it's kinda cute.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/02/2019 17:27

Aria? With a short a. Like Harry ah.

AriadneCrete · 22/02/2019 19:22

Love the name!

I really like Ari, but Addie is a good alternative.
