Albert or Leopold

Hi,

We have a mixed English German family but live in England now.

I think we have wiggled it down to Albert or Leopold. Albert would be Albie as a nickname I think. Leo would be an obvious choice for leopold, although I do think I'd probably stick to the full name mostly. My DH though probably wouldnt. I do like both. What worries me about Leopold is that Leo is now in the top 10 so seems very popular.

Does anyone have any opinions on either?

I like Leopold a lot, but Leo is so common these days that I'm not so keen on Leo.

Albert is nice.

How about
Fabian
Quentin
Marcus
Felix

I prefer leonardo or Leonard.
Albert still seems dated to me even though I know it’s coming back

Leopold. He can shorten it to Leo.

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/02/2019 12:36

I love Albert but much prefer Leon to Leo(pold).

I don't like Albert or any of it's nicknames, except for maybe Bert. Leopold I like and I like Leo too. Who cares if it's common, it's the name you like.

The child may care! He may prefer not to be known as Leo A or Leo B. I've hated having a common name!

I prefer Leopold. I know of quite a few Albies born recently.

Antonin · 20/02/2019 20:58

Albie and Albert are on the upward trend at the moment. I think of it as an old man’s name.
I like Leopold but only if not shortened

Jaz32 · 20/02/2019 22:41

Leopold/Leo.
There are loads of Albies now! I prefer Bertie as the short form of Albert!

BrizzleMint · 20/02/2019 22:45

Leopold but only because of a Prince Albert.

Thank you everyone, interesting that most people prefer leopold! I know I shouldn't care too much about how popular a name is but the boy might care once he's at school and one of many. But I guess he could always be Leopold there?

Thank you for the other suggestions as well. Interestingly most of those were actually on our list. But it feels like we've wiggled it down to the above two now.
