Too similar?

Found out today that our second baby is going to be another girl. (Let's hear it for being able to re-use all those barely-worn shoes!)

DH and I struggle to agree on girl's names for some reason. Plenty we each like, but precious few we both like. We both quite like Norah - but we already have a Clara. They're too similar, aren't they? DH thinks we could get away with it, but I don't want them to sound like Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee!

Thoughts?

They are too similar for me.

BlueMerchant · 18/02/2019 21:30

Personally I wouldn't. Love Clara but Norah too similar to me. I'd be tempted to choose HeidiSmile

Trinnidad · 18/02/2019 21:45

I think they're a bit too similar. Perhaps something like:

Abigail
Annwen
Beatrice
Cecily
Frances
Imogen
Lucy
Marianne
Meredith
Naimh

First ones that came into my head sorry!

PhoebeFriends · 18/02/2019 21:52

Nancy ?

IncrediblySadToo · 18/02/2019 21:56

Definitely the tweedles.

I love Clara 😊

I had a Great Aunt Norah. She was FAB! But I can’t imagine calling a wee baby that. I’d be wanting to put a whisky in one hand and a cigarette in the other 🤣

Daisy?

DramaAlpaca · 18/02/2019 22:02

They are not too similar at all, but Clara is so much nicer than Norah.

JimJamJarmusch · 18/02/2019 22:04

Hmm. Thought it probably wasn't a good pairing! We'll continue to search...

Clara and Alice
Clara and Merryn
Clare and Florence
Clara and Juliet/te
Clara and Ellis

Dextrodependant · 18/02/2019 22:08

I don't think they work. Niamh works with Clara if it is the N sound you like. I also like Heidi as mentioned above.

Clara and Elsie

Clara and Betty

Clara and Maud

Clara and Louisa

Clara and Kaitlyn

Norma?

Frieda is nice.

Threenanger · 18/02/2019 22:31

I think it’s fine...they barely rhyme. They just both end in a...like a lot of girl names. It’s not a big deal at all. Go with it!

Tillygetsit · 18/02/2019 23:16

Nancy as suggested by a PP is great with Clara.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 19/02/2019 07:25

Too similar plus Norah is dreadful sorry.

Clara and Matilda
Clara and Eleanor
Clara and Harriet
Clara and Alice
Clara and Florence
Clara and Isabella
Clara and Beatrice
Clara and Rose
Clara and Juliet
Clara and Lucy.

emilybrontescorsett · 19/02/2019 08:19

I don't think they are too similar.

Happyandglorious · 19/02/2019 09:17

I don't think they are too similar but I do think Norah is an old lady name that still sounds old ladyish. Where as Clara has old lady chic.

daisypond · 19/02/2019 09:24

I think they're too similar in sound, but rather different in tone. How about Eleanor?

Bumblebeesmum · 19/02/2019 09:41

I have a Clara & adore the name Norah ! I don’t really know what tweedy means (?!) but don’t think they’re too similar.

Someone has suggested Heidi - my husband vetoed that for our second as he didn’t like the idea people would think we’d named them after the famous literary best friends Heidi and Clara

Bumblebeesmum · 19/02/2019 09:45

A friend has a Dulcie which has a similar vintage feel to Clara, is beautiful & has a completely different sound - I think she said there were under a hundred of them a year also

Rokol · 19/02/2019 10:23

I love similar names, it saves you having to repeat the same thing to both of them. My kids are named Danny & Anny, so when I call one of them both appear Smile I love both Norah & Clara! Good luck and all the best with the pregnancy.
