Baby due in 2 weeks 🙈

So our baby is due in 2 weeks! She has had her name since 16 weeks when we found out her gender so she has been known for more than half the pregnancy as her name which I still do love! It's even written on her nursery wall, we have personalised blankets and dummy clips etc.

I have now fallen in love with the name Blair for her 😭😭😭 her daddy doesn't like it and says that her name is the one we've chosen but I can't get Blair out of my head 🙈🙈 someone please tell me how awful the name Blair is to try and knock it out of my head or put me off!

What is the original name you liked?
I personally don’t like Blair...reminds me of Tony Blair. I know Blair from gossip girl...but I never thought she suited such a harsh masculine name.

It’s too masculine and severe for a girl, and it’s quite faddy. Not a traditional name that will stand the test of time.

Divgirl2 · 14/02/2019 22:32

I don't like Blair as a girl's name - definitely a boy's name in Scotland.

DramaAlpaca · 14/02/2019 22:33

It's a surname, not a particularly nice one. I don't see it as a girls' name at all. Anyway, it's not a runner if her dad doesn't like it.

IHeartMarmiteToast · 14/02/2019 22:33

The Blair witch project.... (((shudders)))

tablelegs · 14/02/2019 22:33

I'm Scotland and it's more of a boys name here. Not sure where you are.

MissMoodyMoo · 14/02/2019 22:34

We are going for a traditional gaelic name Fiadh which I'm still totally in love with.

I actually got the name from gossip girl 😂😂 turns out I've watched majority of Netflix since being on maternity leave since 30 weeks with complications so decided to give GG a go and I'm HOOKED! 😂😂 I don't know if I'm just hormonal 🤦🏼‍♀️🤞

I think Blair is such a horrible sound. Like the noise you make when you vomit.

Barbarafromblackpool · 14/02/2019 22:35

Bleurgh. Is what I hear.

Tavannach · 14/02/2019 22:35

It's a boy's name to me. But if you like it go for it if you can convince your DH. Maybe as a mn?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/02/2019 23:36

Oh maybe she's chosen Blair for herself. Its not terribly uncommon babies naming themselves.
I'd wait to see when she's born
I like Fiadh Blair, but to me It sounds like you're saying "Fear Blair" (as in Tony Blair)

Shadow1234 · 15/02/2019 00:40

Not keen on Blair

foggyuplands · 15/02/2019 00:43

I see it as a boys name OP. Also associate it with Tony Blair although that may be my age.

Threenanger · 15/02/2019 01:16

Haha missmoodymoo! I think Serena as a name is nicer! Though I always preferred Blair as character!

On another note ever since becoming a parent I can’t bear to watch GG again. (I did try on Netflix) but now attempting to rewatch it, I can’t help but watch it from a parent’s perspective now, and am horrified at what they get up to when they are only meant to be 15/16. I’m afraid I’ve turned into a parent now...

And I don’t mean to throw a spanner in the works...but I’m afraid I’m not a fan in fiadh, probably because of spelling and mispronounciation issues. But pick it because you love it.

nocluenoidea · 15/02/2019 07:19

To me Blair sound very American and just reminds me of the Blair Witch Project. Not a fan at all!

Sophronia · 15/02/2019 09:34

Fiadh is much nicer than Blair. Blair just makes me think of Tony Blair, or the word ‘blare’

aliceandkids77 · 15/02/2019 10:11

I actually agree with your hubby as Blair isn't one of my favs, sounds like 'bleugh!'. As soon as I read this I thought of the name Blythe, similar to Blair but imo much prettier and sounds more like a proper name. good luck doll x

PassTheAfterEights · 15/02/2019 12:38

FWIW @MissMoodyMoo I think GG is so compulsive and absorbing and well done it definitely draws you into its world (hello headbands in the naughts) for a while & you will get over / go off the current influence.

Ashamed to say I feel I speak with experience as DH and I made a start on Outlander and have found an inescapable attraction to ALL OUTLANDER EVERYTHING, considering in the name mix variously Murtagh, Angus, Rupert, Laoghaire even though she's a detestable minx of a character etc ...

On a personal level also much prefer your original choice, which is super pretty and different.

MissMoodyMoo · 15/02/2019 13:08

I've recently just finished outlander after a week of binging 😂 and have added "Jamie" onto my boys list 😂😂

MrsJDornan · 15/02/2019 13:17

Not helpful but I actually really like the name Blair sorry op but if you and her dad can't agree then you won't be able to use it

PassTheAfterEights · 15/02/2019 14:10

Haaa @OP all in one week!? So impressed / jealous, we're trying to ration ourselves 🙈 DH is Jamie, alas (but Fraser is right up there.............)

Part of me is just glad this babe didn't come along during The Killing or Breaking Bad or we'd have ended up with Theis Jan Birk Larsen or Hank Jesse Walter Pinkman, boy or girl probably 🙄

toomuchtoolittle · 15/02/2019 14:15

Blair's a boys name to me. Bit harsh sounding for a girl imo

Wordie · 15/02/2019 17:13

My maiden name is Blair.

All I get is ......
Tony Blair
Lionel Blair
Hairy Blairy
Blair witch
Bllllaaiiirr 🤢 vomit sound
Blaire
Plus, my mum almost called me Toni Blair and it was only because my dad refused at the last minute that I was saved from a life of misery!! Trust your DH, stick with your first name!

People always commented on it negatively and I couldn’t wait to get rid of it when I got married!

MikeUniformMike · 15/02/2019 19:20

The first Blair I met was a woman, and I'm from the age group that had a lot of Clares.
As a name, I'm afraid I think of Blare, Tony, Lionel...
