I find boys names really difficult. I don't like anything too "unique" but all the sort of common ones I just don't love either .

Cooper , Fletcher and Spencer have came up in discussion and we both seem to like these . Any suggestions of something similar ?

Or any other suggestions of names you love that aren't so uncommon they're wierd lol

What is it you like about those names?

How they sound with your surname? Surname as first name thing? Traditional occupation name thing? Something else?

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 12/02/2019 14:25

I know a Grainger and a Mitchell.

I hate them as first names, but other seem to like them.

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/02/2019 14:26

I really don't know to be honest ! I think they just stood out because we haven't heard them a million times over. The fact they're surnamey is just a coincidence !

I also like names like Jack, Adam, Ryan but we'd prefer to have something not overly common (if we can).

But at the same time I can't picture any names on a baby boy 😂 I think I'm so used to having girls that anything male just sounds strange to me when I picture a newborn

Ryder/Dexter/Jarvis

You seem to like surnames/occupation names, so...

Archer
Fraser
Wilder
Baxter
Tanner
Hudson
Bowman
Brooks
Sawyer
Harris
Dawson
Samson
Lewin
Riordan
Lachlan
Ellis

OlennasWimple · 12/02/2019 14:47

Baxter means "female baker", so not ideal for a baby boy Smile

OP - Jack has been incredibly common over the last decade or so, but Adam and Ryan not so much

Bobbybobbins · 12/02/2019 14:48

Harrison
Marshall

cindersrella · 12/02/2019 14:52

Gray

I don't know any others 😂

MikeUniformMike · 12/02/2019 14:54

The names will get shortened.
Make sure you are happy with any potential nn.
Fletch for example is ok, but you might not like Spence, Jens etc.

My first thought at the thread title was Mitchell, as also suggested by a pp.

raeray · 12/02/2019 15:33

Grayson
Jenson
Leighton
Mason
Taylor
Harrison

Not sure if any of those you might like OP

Congratulations on your upcoming arrival Thanks

Didyeeaye · 12/02/2019 16:26

Ryan and Adam aren't as common with young children anymore. I love Ryan as it means 'little king' which I think is awesome.
Names you may like;
Leif
Sawyer
Brendan
Grayson
Marlow
Chester

Why do so many people have this obsession with using surnames as first names? It always sounds wrong.

Lewis
Radley
Ronson

Or trade, rather

sickmumma · 12/02/2019 16:40

Cameron, calvin

Shadow1234 · 12/02/2019 16:51

My daughters friend named her little boy Lincoln, which I thought was a lovely name.

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/02/2019 17:14

Why do so many people have this obsession with using surnames as first names?

It's not an obsession, we just happen to like these 3 names. 🙄 Like I said we also like Ryan, Adam and a few other more common names . I have 2 girls already both have normal "non surname" names

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/02/2019 17:14

@Shadow1234 a relative of ours recently had a baby Lincoln! They're in America though . I do quite like it but wouldn't use it because they have

I do actually really like Fletcher shortened to Fletch, think it's quite a cool name for a teen/older guy . It's my favourite of the 3 I posted about.

Thanks for the suggestions! None are really jumping out at me . I like Harris but living in Scotland I'm pretty sure it's quite popular now. I think Millar is quite cute but we know a toddler called this so wouldn't use that.

We've got ages to decide so I'll keep looking but read these suggestions out to OH and see if we like any !

Why don’t you just use one of the names you like? Cooper is quite popular where I teach though.
Never met a little Adam! A few Ryan and Jacks.

untoldstories · 12/02/2019 17:21

Fletcher/Fletch is brilliant!
Takes me right back to Porridge. Grin

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/02/2019 17:22

Why don’t you just use one of the names you like?

I'm just looking for more options. we haven't found one we LOVE. I'm only 17 weeks so this is just a list I'm making ..... We only just found out the sex a few days ago I'm not going to jump into a name lol

Only asking!

WillowG · 12/02/2019 17:32

I would say names like Archer, Carter and Parker are similar.
