Teddy as female nn

Does anyone have a female Teddy? Not as given name on birth certificate, but as nn for a longer name? STILL trying to name our daughter and considering this abbreviation of a longer name but I know Teddy is increasingly popular as a given name for boys - do you think people will always assume she’s a boy? I don’t want to store up problems for her at school.

The name is Theodora but realistically I think we and others will probably shorten if we go for this. The only other nn I like is Dolly, but I’ve seen that slated on here. Really don’t like Thea.

So does anyone have a female Teddy and does she get grief for it?

I love Teddy and Dolly. IME boys who get Teddy as a nickname are actually called Edward, not Theodore!

I also love Thea but can see that you don't - to be honest, that's where I'd exercise caution because Thea is the natural nn for Theadora and you may not be able to control what other people call her !

@merrybloominchristmas

teddy is either a teddy bear, a boy called edward or an all in one sexy camisole and pants things for me

Actually.. The teddy bear was named after Theodore Roosevelt so although it may be used as a diminutive for Edward, it was originally a diminutive for Theodore.

There's Teddy Altman in Grey's Anatomy, I didn't bat an eyelid when I heard her name. It's fine.

I'd avoid Dora and Dolly too.

Have only ever heard it for a boy - but think it could be quite cute for a girl!

I think you are after a shortened version of the name????

You don't get to pick nicknames?

Sorry OP, not having a go but it's so common place on here. Name your child, but accept that a nn develops organically.

I love Thoeodora! Teddy is a cute nickname for when she's younger.
