Name Tobias/Toby

Hi, struggling to name our new baby boy and wanted to get your thoughts on Tobias, shortened to Toby for everyday. Just concerned it’s getting really popular...

Main priority is that it isn’t too common (ideally not another in his class with same name) but also that it’s classy/traditional/English sounding.

Do you know of any other Tobias’s or Toby’s? Are they babies?

I like it, and I only know one Tobias/Toby who’s 3, and one adult Toby.

I love Tobias and only know 1 adult with the name so not common around here

Is it pronounced Tobeeas or Tobeyeas?

I don't know any and I love it. Was keen on it for both of mine but vetoed by DH.

My favourite boy's name by a mile! DS would be Toby if I'd had my way but DH hates it. I'm 32 weeks with DC2 and have tried to wear DH down on Toby of this one is a boy but no avail!

DS is Hugh and if DC2 is a boy I think he will be Angus, just in case you like either of those as I have the same sort of name requirements as you - classic, English, but not too popular.

I know an adult Tobias (he pronnounces it Tobeeas) known as Toby.
Perfectly ok name.
Combined, Toby might be a bit more popular than you hoped.

It's not to my taste but I don't mind it. I know 3 - 1 adult, 2 7 year old and the other is a baby

Mine Tobias James. Known as Toby people in maternity unit thought I was a star trek fan, I had to google why!
School staff told me kids called Toby are either beautifully behaved or the class joker but always friendly, they've never had a bully called Toby.....this is just one school though

Mine is also Tobias James! Known as Toby. He is 9 and the only one in his year.

Oh expect people to call him Tobes, which annoys me but even I do it at times

We have a Toby! Not Tobias but Toby. We don't know of any others and I'm pretty certain there isn't another in his school.

I know three tobys under 5. One is just Toby, one is a tobias and one is a torben.

I love them all but it's definitely getting more popular in my area.

I like Tobias, but I don't think I would call it rare/definitely going to be the only one in his class, especially with Toby as a nickname. It's lovely though :)

I have a Toby, 12. At least one other in his year that I know of. Call him Tobes, Toblerone (his fave choc), and TP (middle name Peter).

I love the name Tobias but really dislike Toby personally so wouldnt use it.

Opposite to the previous poster, I like Toby but not Tobias! I only know one and he’s about 50!

I know a lot of little Tobys, but none of them are Tobias afaik.

Would having another Toby in his class bother you, so long as it wasn’t another Tobias?

Tobias is nice.

But I dislike Toby as it feels cutesy along with Alfie, Archie, Monty etc.
