Brenna, what do you think?

I heard this name a few years ago and fell in love with it. What do you all think? It's not very common but it has been around a long time. I'm Irish and google says there are Irish roots for it but yet the only person I know named Brenna is a girl from England.

Also makes me think of Brenda.

MikeUniformMike · 03/02/2019 20:09

Not keen sorry. Bronagh is much nicer.

MyNewBearTotoro · 03/02/2019 20:12

I like it - I knew a toddler called Brenna (she would be about 7 or 8 now) and whilst I hadn’t heard it before I met her it suited her. It’s an unusual name but doesn’t feel too ‘out there’ and fairly easy to spell/ pronounce etc too.

JanisJoplin73 · 03/02/2019 20:14

It’s frumpy.

starzig · 03/02/2019 20:15

You may be better with Brenda. She will possibly be constantly correcting from that anyway.

AfterSchoolWorry · 03/02/2019 20:25

What about Brianna?

littlebillie · 03/02/2019 21:58

I have heard Briena which I assume is the same pronunciation

AntsMarching · 03/02/2019 22:03

I really like it and considered it for DD1, but my mother’s name is Brenda, so my husband said no to it as it would be like naming her for one grandmother and not the other.

southernetter · 03/02/2019 22:04

I don’t like it sorry. I don’t think it sounds nice at all

BlackType · 03/02/2019 22:05

Um, no.

Divgirl2 · 03/02/2019 22:21

I don't really like it, but pp is right about Bronagh - that's a beautiful name.

beachbodyunready · 03/02/2019 22:34

No, sorry I really dislike it. If it's the way it sounds have you considered Arwenna I know one and it's sometimes shortened to Wenna which I also like.

Insomnibrat · 03/02/2019 22:37

Absolutely not.

zozozoo · 03/02/2019 22:38

Brienna, Clenna... Otoh bruvva, brenda

ChubsyMcChubFace · 03/02/2019 23:02

Not my cup of tea. I’ve never heard of it before and I am Irish? Maybe I am a bit sheltered though!

Kescilly · 03/02/2019 23:06

I think it’s fine. Not my favorite, but not as awful as other people have said!

SpottyPython · 03/02/2019 23:22

I don't like Bronagh as it's too similar to the word for sorrow in Irish. Also not mad on Brianna, Briena or other variations. Strongly dislike Brenda! Will probably go back to the drawing board after this reaction. I still love the name though.

It's pronounced like Bren-na rather than Bree-na

I love it... because it’s my dogs name Grin

Not 100% keen on Brenna the LOVE Breagh (Bre-ah), Brienne or Brianna though

Astronica · 04/02/2019 01:31

I think it's a great name, and I'm really surprised how negative the response is. I totally get why it has appealed to you OP. If it worked with my surname it would be on my shortlist.

MikeUniformMike · 04/02/2019 09:41

If you like it then use it.
Most names are fine once you know the person.
People will make assumptions about you if they haven't met you, based on your name but Brenna is fairly inoffensive.

Thecaravan · 05/02/2019 16:34

I worked with a lovely Irish Brenna. No one thought she was called Brenda. Made me like the name :)

Bringbackthestripes · 05/02/2019 16:40

I think she’d have a lifetime of:
‘what’s your name?’
‘Brenna’
‘Brenda’
‘No. Brenna’.

She will also never be able to find a personalised pen with her name in in any gift shop Grin

Will probably go back to the drawing board after this reaction. I still love the name though.
If you love it use it. If you find another name you love, don’t tell ANYONE so they can’t spoil it for you. It’s a lot harder for people to critique a name once you’ve already given it.

RavenWings · 05/02/2019 16:42

Really ugly name imo.
