Is Edmund just too ridiculous?

Have always loved this name, however, since mentioning it to friends and family I’ve received some negative feedback.

We do love the name Edward too, just prefer the sound of Edmund.

What are your opinions?

Middle name will be Alexander
Thank you x

I know an Edmund in his early 60's.

He uses his middle name.

The only other person it reminds me of is one of the boys in the Narnia films...oh, and Blackadder.

I'm not sure I'd go there tbh, but I think it might be a grower If you really love it.

fairybeagle · 03/02/2019 23:25

Love it Smile

Mummymummums · 03/02/2019 23:29

I don't like Edmund but it's personal choice. Edwin is another possibility.

Emelene · 03/02/2019 23:46

Love it. It was on my list for a boy. Smile

Missillusioned · 04/02/2019 00:27

NothingOnTellyAgain Edric is an old English name I believe, although it may have come from the Norse originally.

Schmoobarb · 04/02/2019 00:33

I think it’s OK and I really like Ed

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 04/02/2019 00:36

I love Edmund. I know an Edmund who is the nicest man I know.

moredoll · 04/02/2019 00:41

Edmund is lovely. Bit geeky on a baby perhaps, but he'll grow into it by the time he's walking.

Beeziekn33ze · 04/02/2019 00:53

We have an Edmund Alexander, great names. He was Eddie, became Ed in his teens.

Butterflycookie · 04/02/2019 01:05

It’s a great name!

Astronica · 04/02/2019 01:28

I love Edmund, one of my favourite names. Nothing ridiculous about it!

So many good potential nns (personal favourites are Ted and Ned). I like Edward but find Edmund much more appealing and interesting.

Maureen80 · 04/02/2019 01:49

As a massive Tennis fan, I give this a massive thumps up Smile.

Picknickers · 04/02/2019 05:20

I much prefer Edwin.

Decormad38 · 04/02/2019 05:23

Nope they both make me cringe. I think of Edward from Royal family - urghh and Edmund- just no.

Glowlightly · 04/02/2019 05:30

It's lovely! Classic and not overused

Leafy2018 · 04/02/2019 13:47

I think of Miranda where her Mother is trying to set her up on a date with an Edmund as she's trying to find an excuse not to go!

Tightlippedmama · 04/02/2019 16:38

Another mother of an Edmund here too.

When he was a baby our GP used to greet him ‘Hello Little Blackadder!’ but no one since.

He likes NOT being ‘just another Edward’ but is now, in his twenties, ‘just another Ed’
He’s no geek and I suspect there are a goodly number of young women of his acquaintance who hold warm feelings towards the name.

I still like the name a lot too.

lottiegarbanzo · 04/02/2019 17:12

I like it. Much more so than Edward or Edgar.

It is old-fashioned and makes me think of The Lion etc but it just sounds much nicer.

OutPinked · 04/02/2019 17:17

I like it.

masktaster · 04/02/2019 18:45

It was on our shortlist (probably top on reflection) for DS, family name (albeit middle, not first) and we liked it better as a standalone than all the other Ed- names, and the nickname Teddy.

Then DS didn't suit it when he was born (and actually ended up a name we hadn't considered at all while pregnant, go figure). Wouldn't discount it for a future DS though!

HoraceCope · 04/02/2019 18:47

first thoughts were Black Adder, somehow

But If you want it, dont tell people until you are firm with your choice

VenusClapTrap · 04/02/2019 20:07

Great name. Ds was nearly Edgar.

MumUnderTheMoon · 04/02/2019 21:03

I think Edmund is much nicer than Edward.

TheMallard · 05/02/2019 19:36

We have a 5yo Edmund. We've only ever had positive comments. He's even said himself that he likes it.

ThursdayLastWeek · 05/02/2019 19:38

I have a relative called Edmund, known exclusively as Ned.
I like it.
