Is Edmund just too ridiculous?

Have always loved this name, however, since mentioning it to friends and family I’ve received some negative feedback.

We do love the name Edward too, just prefer the sound of Edmund.

What are your opinions?

Middle name will be Alexander
Thank you x

Very nice! I can see why people might be raising eyebrows, but I still think it’s a lovely, classic, almost gentle name. I prefer it to Edward, personally.

Butterfly84 · 03/02/2019 18:53

Love it. Always loved it. There's scope for nicknames/shortenings to form too: Ed, Eddie etc.

Cbeebiesrehab · 03/02/2019 19:11

Nice! More unusual than Edward but not ‘weird’-reminds me of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe!

' everyone knows how to spell it!'

Unfortunately not - db is Edmund and gets a lot of Edmonds.

It is an excellent name though.

ZebraKid71 · 03/02/2019 19:51

It's currently top of my boys list.

MikeUniformMike · 03/02/2019 20:10

It's not in the slightest bit ridiculous. I like it. It's a classic name.

MsMustDoBetter · 03/02/2019 20:23

I love it! A nice change from Edward (also love Edward).

hatethinkingofusernames · 03/02/2019 21:47

Much prefer it to Edward, really dislike it for some reason

Hippopotas · 03/02/2019 21:52

I like it but it does bring to mind Blackadder

tammytoby · 03/02/2019 21:54

Edmund is much stronger and more masculine than Edward. Love Edmund.

Helmetbymidnight · 03/02/2019 21:55

Don't think of Edmund Blackadder, think of Edmund Hillary. Grin

Petalflowers · 03/02/2019 21:55

If you love it, use, and don’t tell people what you plan to call your baby before he is born.

Edmund Alexander is a lovely name,

mogtheexcellent · 03/02/2019 21:57

Edmund was my boys name but we had a DD. I love it.

southernetter · 03/02/2019 21:57

I know an Edmund in real life. He is charming and very intelligent. I think it’s a lovely name. I think I prefer it to Edward which I think is a bit harsh sounding.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 03/02/2019 21:57

OMG edric! Never heard that before it's an awesome name! It's it Scandinavian sounds a bit like it?

Op go for it, if he doesn't like it he will be ed/ Eddie so really no issue.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 03/02/2019 21:59

I like it
But as a parent of small dc I immediately think of peppa pig and 'Edmund elephant is a clever clogs'

Although it's not a terrible trait to have an I obviously would think that in my head if I met a human Edmund

OhTheRoses · 03/02/2019 22:00

When I had an Edward it was ground breaking. I like Edmund. Also Edwin. I had an Alexander too, very briefly. Great choices.

Sophronia · 03/02/2019 22:53

Edmund Alexander is great. I prefer Edmund to Edward.

MitziK · 03/02/2019 22:57

Would have used it myself had the occasion arose.

Go for it - Edmund Alexander is a lovely name.

ChubsyMcChubFace · 03/02/2019 22:59

I love it! I also love Edward. Strongly dislike Eddie on the BC. Not sure why, but I really dislike it. Fine as a nn though.

Scandaloso · 03/02/2019 22:59

Long line of Edmunds in my family over three centuries. Then suddenly it stopped. The last Edmund must have brought the name into disrepute.

MrsEricBana · 03/02/2019 23:05

I know 2 men with this name - both cool - and one teen who wears it well. If you love it, def go for it. Anyway, it's the person who gives the name it's feel e.g. Colin Firth is not very "Colin" at all (and I'm not making it up when I tell you that my phone auto corrected to Colon Girth then 😂)

AdorableMisfit · 03/02/2019 23:05

I love Edmund. It was on my list for DS, but in the end we went with Edgar because we're a bit goth and liked the Edgar Allan Poe connection. And Edgar Wright. But yes, absolutely go with Edmund, it's a fantastic name. Don't let anyone tell you different. Lol.

Finfintytint · 03/02/2019 23:14

DS has Edmund as a middle name - family connection and his place of birth.
