Hello
We love the name Athanasios (greek means immortal) but we want a short for it... the usual in Greece is Thanos or Nasos.

Any imaginative short versions? It's great to hear from non-Greek people how they could imagine this name to be shorten?

Nathan?

Athan if you want a pure shortening, or Ethan for something similar

I'd pronounce
Ath an AS ios with emphasis on AS
Nn Thanos
Nice name I assume you are Greek? I wouldn't use it otherwise.

Thanos and Nasos work well as nicknames!

GailTheFish · 02/02/2019 09:58

Ossie as a nickname?

DS went to school with a boy called Athanasios - he goes by Thanassi.

MumUnderTheMoon · 02/02/2019 10:30

Atha or Naz

Greek here. My dad was Thanos and our surname is a variation of Athanasios...English people cannot really pronounce the Greek Theta, pronouncing and spelling my surname (plus my ancient greek first name) is a huge nuisance. Maybe go with a different name?

I used to work with an Athanasios. He went by Athan, pronounced like Nathan.
