What do you all think of the name Etta?
Saw it today and it hit me straight away. Think its one that would grow well.
I have a short surname so I'd probably use both first and middle name. Wouldnt double barrel it just use both together.
Middle name is set in stone as Rose.
So possibly Etta Rose.

Two in the crèche I help with (under 2) so probably becoming more popular suddenly-had never heard it before then.

Astronica · 02/02/2019 03:44

I'm not keen on it, sorry.

MumUnderTheMoon · 02/02/2019 10:38

Love it! it can also be used as a nn for Henrietta. Henrietta Rose?

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 02/02/2019 10:42

Sorry but I've never liked this name. it's looks lovely written down, but said spoken I think it's an ugly name. Ate a rose.

Kokeshi123 · 02/02/2019 12:34

It looks like the end of a name rather than a name in itself, and it sounds like someone having a coughing fit. I am not keen.

tammytoby · 02/02/2019 13:51

Loretta
Henrietta

nocluenoidea · 05/02/2019 00:38

Love this name!

Choccywoccyhooha · 05/02/2019 00:42

Beautiful name.

Tortycat · 05/02/2019 00:49

Love Etta but not with Rose. Dont see a problem with Etta on its own with a short surname (and Rose just used like a normal middle name). Lots of names are shortened to 2 syllables anyway

HappyGoLuckyGo · 05/02/2019 01:26

Not to my taste, personally... I think it sounds incomplete.

Etta Rose is pretty though, as a combination (although I did think “ha, Ate A Rose”).

NeverHadANickname · 05/02/2019 01:48

I really like Etta.

Montybabe · 05/02/2019 02:03

Lovely, wish that i’d usef it

VetOnCall · 05/02/2019 04:07

Etta is fine but not with Rose. You can't condemn the poor child to a lifetime of 'what'd you do that for?/didn't the thorns hurt?' comments.

confusedandcrazymother · 05/02/2019 07:44

If you don’t like Henrietta, what about Julietta.

Julietta Rose sounds gorgeous!

Etta is ok, but agree it feels incomplete.

Also with Etta it’s not a very classic well known name eg. Like Hannah.
It’s one of those names that are now used because 50s names are back in fashion. So it may just be faddy in years to come.

tammytoby · 05/02/2019 07:48

I agree that it sounds incomplete. It sounds like it's short for Henrietta, Julietta, Coletta, Nicoletta etc.

VenusClapTrap · 05/02/2019 11:52

Not keen. Too similar to all the Ella, Esme, Eva, Ava type names that abound. Especially with Rose.

starkid · 05/02/2019 13:46

I like it with Rose, not so much on it's own. Maybe as a nickname to Henrietta, but not personally on its own.

Bumblebeesmum · 06/02/2019 03:14

I love this name so much but I’m a massive fan of Etta James. I love it as a stand-alone name but equally it would be lovely as a nickname for something. Juliet / Harriet / Annette / Violet / Verity / Odette / Ettiene / Hester / Alette / Bernadette / Lisbet even names like Bethany and Beatrice don’t feel a huge stretch
Or even a combo that makes it a natural nn like Elinor Tabitha etc etc

I’m someone who only really likes classic traditional full names - so I’m in the minority when it comes to the current fashionable names - but even I make an exception for Etta as it’s simply beautiful

Bumblebeesmum · 06/02/2019 03:15

I’ve just realised that Julietta Rose sounds very much like Julie ate a rose....

palmfrondisland · 06/02/2019 03:30

I really don't like it and it's very difficult to say, so I would avoid calling a person by their name if I knew one. It just doesn't flow nicely like names should.

Runningbutnotscared · 06/02/2019 04:31

My dad would have made the joke
‘Etta Rose, the she sat back down again’.

Always makes me smile when a middle name is Rose; and as everyone under the age of 5 seems to have that middle name, I smile a lot.
