Just saw a mum on a Facebook group call her baby this.
What does everyone think? I love unusual names but not sure on this one, but I think it could grow on me!

It’s the name of a grey hamster I had as a child.

pootleposeyperkin · 01/02/2019 13:15

Dusty Bin from 321 (80's kid) !

MikeUniformMike · 01/02/2019 13:16

Dusty Springfield, Dusty Bin, Dustin Hoffman.
Busty Dustie...

FlyingMonkeys · 01/02/2019 13:17

Dustie/Dusty is an abbreviation of Dustin. Is the child a boy? Is it a nn?

elQuintoConyo · 01/02/2019 13:18

Bin!

Also an 80s child.

MothershipG · 01/02/2019 13:27

I know a 17 year old Dusty, doesn't seem to have caused her any trauma, named for Dusty Springfield.

erja · 01/02/2019 13:30

@FlyingMonkeys a girl!

No. Never.

starkid · 01/02/2019 13:44

Nooo

Scandaloso · 01/02/2019 13:54

I adore, ADORE, Dusty Springfield and yet my first thought was Dusty Bin.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/02/2019 13:55

I had a grey kitten called Dusty. Named after Dusty Springfield.

dementedpixie · 01/02/2019 13:56

That's my cats name

Topseyt · 01/02/2019 15:16

I'm afraid I would always think of Dusty Bin. Showing my age there, I suppose, but it was a great big daft looking dustbin on a TV game show.

It is, of course, also household muck.

GraceMarks · 01/02/2019 17:56

Dusty Springfield's real name was Mary O'Brien! It's quite nice in a fey, 60s sort of way, but ultimately I think the Dusty Bin association is too strong for me.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 01/02/2019 18:02

Yes bin! And showing my age again, Sue-Ellen’s love interest in Dallas!

Dustie?
notangelinajolie · 01/02/2019 18:04

That name would only ever mean Dusty Bin for me.

Florrieboo · 01/02/2019 22:47

The coolest kid in my daughters class is a 6 year old called Dusty. He is a real surfer dude and his name suits him so much.

Butterfly84 · 01/02/2019 23:01

I have known one Dusty. I quite like it.

But then when I think what dusty means...dust, dirt etc., I wouldn't use the name.

WrapAndRoll · 02/02/2019 01:26

Housework.

mustdrinkwaternotwine · 02/02/2019 01:47

I just think it's quite a negative word. No one has ever said anything pleasant about dust (other that Phillip Pullman). Instead, it is something you want to get rid if.
At least a name like Apple or River doest immediately have negative connotations

Astronica · 02/02/2019 03:39

I don't mind it. Australian designer Leona Edmiston has a little girl Dusty.

Rtmhwales · 02/02/2019 04:20

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine's first DD is Dusty Rose.

GetKetty · 02/02/2019 04:55

No... How about getketty

daisypond · 02/02/2019 09:13

No.

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/02/2019 09:15

I know a man in his thirties called Dusty, not short for anything. I can’t love it but it’s generally fine.
Dustie with an ie at the end is a bit cringey though, I’m not sure why
