Help! I can't find any names I like! I have 2 children already but I want this one to have an unusual name. I don't know if I'm having a girl or boy so all suggestions welcome!!!!

Do your existing children have “unusual” names? If not why lumber your third child with a name so different?

tammytoby · 31/01/2019 20:56

Why 'lumber'? That implies that less popular names are awful...

Wolfiefan · 31/01/2019 21:00

Less popular names aren’t awful.
Unusual implies youneeq names. Which are awful.

talie1008 · 31/01/2019 21:20

Wow bit harsh. Was only asking for suggestions not criticism

Have you tried looking at at the ONS baby name lists? If you start from the bottom instead of at 1 that will give you names which have only been used 3 times in that year. Obviously the further up the list you go the more used the names are, but statistically they are still likely to be reasonably underused.

But Susan and John are still widely used names.

But Susan and John are still widely used names.

But are becoming less so in a younger generation. I know several friends who deliberately picked what they thought were very unusual names which suddenly became very fashionable for new babies

I’d doubt that was going to happen for Susan and John although they are both nice names.

MikeUniformMike · 01/02/2019 13:24

I think John is increasing in popularity. Johnny is cute.
Susan is nice, as is Susie.
These are grandparent or great-grandparents' names now so you might be ahead of the trend.

Do you have a favourite book/film/place that could give you inspiration? Unusual names are great but even better if they have some personal meaning to you/your relationship!
