Hi everyone,

Long time reader first time poster, hoping you ladies might be able to help me. First time Mum due a baby boy in May, the road has not been easy with two miscarriages in the last 14 months and currently in hospital with threatened pre term labour with this little one at 26+5. Doesn't look like he's going to come early thank goodness but my husband and I can't settle on a name and we really really want to.

We like strong, traditional names but aren't keen on using the super popular. We like names with a bit of history or meaning behind them, I'm starting to think names with meanings of strength or courage or miracle would be lovely and fitting.

We have toyed with the following and are open to suggestions;

Marcus
Max (Maxwell/Maximus)
Luke
Love George but if we have a girl one day we want to call her Georgia
Love Jack but it's my brothers name and we want to use his middle name of David after my Dad
Love Theodore but our German Shepherd is called Rio (Theo & Rio lol)

One but not both of us like;
Alexander
Isaac
Joshua
Asher (Ash)

Surname is Armstrong so goes with most things. Please help? Opinions or ideas so welcome!

I prefer Marcus, Luke or Joshua.

I would discount the three names you have doubts about, as a way of narrowing down your list. (Although George does sound good with your surname.)

I probably wouldn't use Alexander Armstrong (comedian and celebrity), Isaac Armstrong (sounds a bit like "eyes and arms" to me) or Max Armstrong (sounds like a protein powder).

Other suggestions:

Jacob
Zachary
Toby
Nathan
Joseph

HalfBloodPrincess · 31/01/2019 09:19

I was going to suggest Max before I read your OP.

starkid · 31/01/2019 09:28

From your lists I like Asher Armstrong and Luke Armstrong :)

Agree with above that Max Armstrong sounds like a bodybuilder/protein drink!

tammytoby · 31/01/2019 09:32

I also like Marcus best.

How about
Quentin
Dominic
Raphael

Butterfly84 · 31/01/2019 10:11

Don't call him Alexander Armstrong!

I think Luke Armstrong sounds really strong and lovely.

Maxymoo1 · 31/01/2019 10:38

Thank you very much everyone! So glad I posted this is really helping!

Max is off the list as is Alexander, they were never front runners and needed ruling out. So glad you pointed out how Max Armstrong sounds like a protein shake that's so funny and true!

Hubby is in love with Marcus I think his heart is really set on it. So we both agree on Marcus, I love Luke as much but Luke is 2nd for my husband. It helps that I know such a lovely Marcus so it's easier to build a picture Smile

Love Joshua and Ethan too but I can't get them in the running with DH! I forgot to add Gabriel to the list DH likes this too.

Why not have both Marcus and Gabriel at the top of your list and give your DS whichever of the two names seems to suit him best when he’s born? Both go well with David as a middle name.
Good wishes for a good birth

GB54 · 31/01/2019 11:37

Gabriel is my favourite. Luke sounds nice.

MikeUniformMike · 31/01/2019 12:04

Marcus - Yes.like it a lot
Max (Maxwell/Maximus) - Yes.like it a lot. Don't like your long versions at all. Just Max.
Luke - Yes
Love George but if we have a girl one day we want to call her Georgia - Georgia is nice
Love Jack but it's my brothers name and we want to use his middle name of David after my Dad - Jack is too popular IMO
Love Theodore but our German Shepherd is called Rio (Theo & Rio lol) - Don't like it.

Alexander - great but overused
Isaac - not keen but it's fine
Joshua - not keen but it's fine
Asher (Ash) - no

Best wishes Flowers

Love Marcus, and also Theo. Don't think you need to worry too much about it rhyming with the dog.

What about Alastair? One of my favourite names that I was never allowed to use. I think a teenage Al would be very cool.

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 31/01/2019 12:10

please no more max, jacks , lillies or charlottes.

Even Wayne is better than Max. Who wants top 50 names.

Elixir
Charbel
Elie
Magnus
Anders
Louis
Rupert
Rasputin

BlueChampagne · 31/01/2019 12:25

Like Marcus. How about Conrad? Neil Armstrong?? Maybe steer clear of Lance as well, tho.

VWpurse · 31/01/2019 12:28

If it makes a difference to you, Alexander, Max and Luke are the three most popular names at our school.

Joseph? (Joe)
Harry?

BigusBumus · 31/01/2019 12:36

I love Marcus, but I've never liked Luke for some reason.

How about Miles? (It means Soldier).

Sessy19 · 31/01/2019 15:11

I LOVE Ash! Had a super-hot crush called Ash a few years ago... 😂

VWpurse · 31/01/2019 20:14

Ash is hot!

GB54 · 31/01/2019 21:15

I really like Ash too. I suggested it to DH when we had DS and he didn’t like it.

Sophronia · 31/01/2019 21:50

I like Luke Armstrong

JoyFlamingo · 31/01/2019 21:52

Gabriel is wonderful OP.
