Yes. As long as it really fits the surname.

tammytoby · 30/01/2019 07:20

Lovely and not overused

SallyWD · 30/01/2019 07:32

Very posh

One of the loveliest people I know is called Portia. Fab name imo

daisypond · 30/01/2019 09:11

Yes. I like it. Though you may unfortunately get people thinking Porsche.

BertrandRussell · 30/01/2019 09:13

I love it but would be worried about people not being able to pronounce it.

Teladi · 30/01/2019 09:14

It should be really nice but people will think Porsche.

MarthasGinYard · 30/01/2019 09:15

I always think sounds slightly try posh

Ok with a suitable surname

ShadyLady53 · 30/01/2019 09:16

I love it, underrated and I associate it more with the Shakespearean character than the car.

Ngaio2 · 30/01/2019 13:25

Nice choice.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 30/01/2019 13:30

For a Persian cat only...

Susannach · 30/01/2019 14:29

Horrible meaning though!

Parthenope · 30/01/2019 14:37

I quite like it (because of the Elizabeth Bowen character -- though admittedly she's a rather uncomfortable teenager whose innocence makes her very cruel) but it's the type of name slightly lazy writers give to a comedy posh girl, like the ghastly horsy daughter of John Cleese's character in A Fish Called Wanda.

Josico58 · 30/01/2019 14:49

I adore it but our surname beings with a P so my DH has veto'd.

MikeUniformMike · 30/01/2019 16:43

It was close to the top of my list. Lovely Shakespearian name that isn't overused.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 30/01/2019 16:51

My first impressions when hearing the name Portia.

Portia is grace personified. Her movements are liquid, her voice soothing and her mind is inquisitive. She holds strong convictions and does not suffer fools. Her dress is either immaculately tailored or bohemian- all squash blossom necklaces and vintage Indian dresses from the 70's. She wears her hair long. Her eyes are expressive, her gaze intense. She is loved by many and is the envy of others. She is often mistaken for being aloof, but she is not. She is actually quite warm and compassionate. She speaks up when she sees an injustice occurring. She is a deep thinker who is sometimes prone to depression. Both men and women fall in love with her quickly, yet she takes her time. She is careful when picking both friends and lovers. Once she is in love she is all in. She is unforgettable and never forgets.

Hope you enjoyed my description of the name Portia!!!!

Good luck and congratulations! Flowers Smile

I know 4 portias but they're all strippers and that's their stripper name Grin

stellarfox · 30/01/2019 20:17

Not keen, I do think of the car!

BertrandRussell · 31/01/2019 11:52

But the car is pronounced Porsh.

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 31/01/2019 11:54

love this name

Disfordarkchocolate · 31/01/2019 11:56

I really like it, makes me think of Rumpole of the Bailey but I'm not sure if that's the right name.

ReginaPhalange89 · 31/01/2019 12:11

Pretty shocked at the feedback to this name being so positive, sorry but i think it's awful ! I'm not sure what it is about me , it screams chav (sorry I know people hate that, but that's all I can think )

CottonSock · 31/01/2019 12:11

My friend called her horse that, wasn't a posh horse

Kokeshi123 · 31/01/2019 12:29

Hate it. Makes me think of "portly."
