Sapphire, poor boy. I know a girl called Sapphire and it sounds like Sophia. That's what most people hear.

At Baby group, I heard Bronte and Saxon, both girls. Also Willow, a boy.

Nuala is a very ordinary name in Irelsnd.
Pronounced Nuulah

Narya · 19/02/2019 16:41

Not many unusual ones round my way but I did come across:

Loki
Louella

This is a great idea, I found the names you think of as unusual before dc1 if you’re a bit out of touch with young kids you find out are very common when you start going to groups. Hunter, Bluebell, River, Dusty, China etc are not out there at all in my experience!
Only known of one Sky Blue, Peregrine or Chyna (& not from a non-UK background)

HairyToity · 19/02/2019 21:52

Beau
Herbie
Eden
Billie (girl)
Rowen (girl)

Gulsink · 19/02/2019 22:17

Not sure how it's written but there's a little boy called Carver in our swim group!

Maybe it's Cava and he has a sister called Chardonnay.

@mossyroundhill Fanta is an old Ethiopian name. Shame it has the drink connotations now!!

Movingtoplanetclanger · 24/02/2019 15:34

I don't know them directly, but I know of a boy named Lancelot- that's something to live up to.

beanaseireann · 24/02/2019 20:01

I know a Lancelot. Shortened to Lance.
It's a family name and my friend, married to said Lance was delighted she had girls so she didn't have to use it. Smile

MamaFlintstone · 24/02/2019 20:05

I met a Jett at one group and an Apollo at another. Made a change from the sea of Edie/Evie/Avas.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 25/02/2019 04:31

Buffy is apparently a nickname for Rebecca. I just cant - reminds me too much of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Clayton is very popular here in the states. I've met several. I mean it's not my taste. I kinda like Craig but I've also known boys named that.

Im new here so dont know the weirdest names yet! I love learning what names are popular versus frowned upon in different countries!

Forkinguglyandproud · 21/07/2019 10:15

A lot of these aren't real. Also how many aren't the kids name but a nickname? My eldest girl was nicknamed Boo as a baby. Now nicknamed Pinky. My other girl is known as Mou/Mouse, as her brother couldn't pronounce her given name, so he called her Mou which lengthened into mouse. So anyone hearing me talk to my girls might assume their proper names are Boo or Pinky and Mou or Mouse, but their proper names are actually nice and normal names Grin.

DaisyChainsGetBroken · 21/07/2019 10:26

Nuala is a proper name! Know loads of them.

Zed is probably one of the most unusual.

ReggaetonLente · 21/07/2019 10:30

I've met a Huckleberry, a Cairo, and a male Olive

Isitweekendyet · 21/07/2019 10:31

Went to a baby group with twin boys Saddam and Hussein.

Absolutely normal names alone.
