Am I setting him up to be teased?

We have an unusual surname, we’re expexting a child, gender unknown. One of my favourite boys names is Maxwell, to be known as Max. My worry is that coupled with our surname, it potentially sounds like a name that he could be teased over, potentially has sexual references? Am I overthinking it and being ridiculous or should I avoid any risk of teasing? The name would be Max Tingle.

Am I being thick or what? What's wrong with max tingle?

gentlyscented · 23/01/2019 13:56

I could understand if it was a girl and op wanted to call her fanny, but max?

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 23/01/2019 13:58

Ooh I know someone with that surname.

How about Alexander, George, Harry?

jessstan2 · 23/01/2019 13:59

Well don't give him that name then, it's quite simple. There are plenty of other names.

raviolidreaming · 23/01/2019 14:04

What about Robert? A sadly underused and lovely name

Dick Tingle? Seriously?

raviolidreaming · 23/01/2019 14:06

I'm thinking of Richard, aren't I?! Apologies. As you were...

Needingwine · 23/01/2019 14:06

Gently scented - I hadn’t thought anything of it until it was pointed out to me hence why I’ve asked for opinions. Obvs I’m used to our surname and see no issue it (in fact I like the fact it’s unusual) but the issue being the two names together has sexual connotations. It’s off the list for me now, not worth the risk for the little thing. Funnily enough, a lot of the other names suggested also feature on our list so I’m sure we’ll fund something! Have the same issue with finding a suitable girls name.
Thanks again to all the helpful suggestions x

I think girls' names will be easier as there's lots with multiple syllables and no obvious shortening that could turn it into a word/phrase

E.g. I can't see anything wrong with:
Sarah Tingle
Sophie Tingle
Catherine Tingle (Katy Tingle doesn't sound like anything bad)
Laura Tingle (I think this sounds like a movie star's name)
Julia Tingle (Jules Tingle doesn't sound bad)

helacells · 24/01/2019 01:43

Give him your surname nothing good will come from being called tingle

PoutySprout · 24/01/2019 07:36

Sarah Tingle
Sophie Tingle

S Tingle = STingle = STINGle

Likely to find kids changing it to Tinkle/Stinkle/Stinky too.

Needingwine · 24/01/2019 07:38

Helacells - rude and unnecessary.

I don't get it 🤷🏾‍♀️

Marcipex · 24/01/2019 08:41

I don't get the Missie one either.

Tingle isn't that bad, surely.

PoutySprout · 24/01/2019 12:18

Missie Pitts = Pissie Mitts

Molakai · 26/01/2019 15:17

helacells FFS it's a perfectly fine surname! Might raise a smile but it's hardly embarrassing in itself.
But pairing it with Max wouldn't be sensible as the OP acknowledges.
A whole world of other names to choose from though so not a problem.

Molakai · 26/01/2019 15:21

gentlyscented and Newbie1981
Max Tingle means Maximum Tingle which is suggestive enough not to use it. Hardly offensive but would put me off for DS's sake

Sunneye · 26/01/2019 15:22

Can you avoid the surname? That’s going to lead to teasing no matter what the first name is (though Max is a complete no-go)

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/01/2019 15:55

Missy Pitts=Pissy Mitts

It doeaht seem to have done Shiloh Pitt (Piloh Shitt) any harm

pandechocolate · 26/01/2019 18:51

I'm sorry but I laughed out loud

Then I saw this Dick Tingle? Seriously? and started choking

pandechocolate · 26/01/2019 18:56

Do you know if you are having a boy or girl?

There are lots of lovely names that aren't innuendos when coupled with Tingle.
Charlie Tingle
Alfie Tingle
Jack Tingle
Jacob Tingle

For girls there are plenty too

PoutySprout · 26/01/2019 19:29

Isn’t Charlie slang for cocaine?

PoutySprout · 26/01/2019 19:32

Only a matter of time before Jacob becomes slang for dick (as in Rees-Mogg)

mum2jakie · 26/01/2019 19:37

I'd go old school - Daniel Tingle, David Tingle, Dominic Tingle. Alliteration might work - I like the sound of Ted Tingle, for example.

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/01/2019 19:42

I think Tingle is a lovely name, it makes me smile. I'd go for Leon, Matthew, Rory or Jeremy.

tammytoby · 26/01/2019 19:43

Ted Tingle sounds like Tetingle Grin
