Am I setting him up to be teased?

We have an unusual surname, we’re expexting a child, gender unknown. One of my favourite boys names is Maxwell, to be known as Max. My worry is that coupled with our surname, it potentially sounds like a name that he could be teased over, potentially has sexual references? Am I overthinking it and being ridiculous or should I avoid any risk of teasing? The name would be Max Tingle.

elQuintoConyo · 22/01/2019 22:29

There seems to be many around....

PoutySprout · 22/01/2019 22:30

I’d change surname and use Max.

IggyAce · 22/01/2019 22:32

Op at least you realised it isn’t suitable with your surname. Their is a girl in dd class called Missie Pitts, her parents should have put more thought into her name.

BeekyChitch · 22/01/2019 22:33

Maybe it's my age (27) or lack of living life to the max but wtf is Max Tingle?!

Rubenesque · 22/01/2019 22:35

I don't get the Missie Pitts one, what's up with that?

importantkath · 22/01/2019 22:35

No, no, no, no. Poor bairn.

calpop · 22/01/2019 22:35

can you double barrel with both surnes to change it like Max Brown-Tingle, Max Tingle-Smith.

That's a hard surname to work with. Inagrre names ending in a T work amd make it sound like the surname is Ingle.

BeekyChitch · 22/01/2019 22:35

Sorry OP just realised that's your second name! I think any name with a second name Tingle would sound a bit out there. So call your baby whatever you want.

PoutySprout · 22/01/2019 22:37

Pissie Mitts?

blibblibs · 22/01/2019 22:37

I know someone with the surname Hawney. She really wanted to call her son Richard, but thankfully didn't Grin

Phebes · 22/01/2019 22:39

Shame, but no! Max Tingle is not good.

Alex Tingle
Jude Tingle
Luke Tingle
Zach Tingle
Jack Tingle
Leo Tingle...?

Needingwine · 22/01/2019 22:43

I’m not offended but thank you for your concern beekychitch 😉. I don’t mind having the surname, we’re easily remembered. Just hard to match something to it. Thank you to those of you who have offered helpful advice. X

Obviously he or she should be called Chris. Grin

Divgirl2 · 23/01/2019 00:06

If you like the X sound Dex(ter) Tingle sounds quite good (I think anyway).

TigerQuoll · 23/01/2019 07:32

I think hyphenating your names is the best way to go. I don't think anything will go with Tingle.

Although if you have to, maybe choose a name with multiple syllables so the Tingle part makes up less of the name and there's less likelihood it sounds like a word or phrase.

Eg
Julian Tingle
Sebastian Tingle
Zachary Tingle
Edward Tingle
Elliot Tingle
Stuart Tingle

Needingwine · 23/01/2019 09:58

It is a good job I’m not easily offended. Whilst I appreciate feedback on the name I asked about, there is no awareness from the fact that I am currently using this surname! 🤣 ouch!

I think plenty of names will go with Tingle, just nothing that could seem to have a double meaning. Or, go with an unambiguous but unembarrassing double meaning, like a flower name.

I also think names with a 't' in the middle could work well and flow into the surname in a way that amalgamates the two. Sound-wise, Laetitia Tingle works for example (but abbreviation-wise it does not).

lottiegarbanzo · 23/01/2019 11:51

...or Peter or Lottie (but not Charlotte, clashing Ts).

PoutySprout · 23/01/2019 11:55

assuming you chose to take this name on marriage, OP, did you not have any conversation about this potential issue? Did he consider taking your name instead?

MumUnderTheMoon · 23/01/2019 13:11

No sorry with a surname like tingle I wouldn't go with max I think they'd get tortured. Great surname though.

MrsBertBibby · 23/01/2019 13:48

Tingle is great! But sadly, Max is out.

What about Robert? A sadly underused and lovely name.

tammytoby · 23/01/2019 13:51

Max and Willie (William) Tingle have to be out, I'm afraid.
