Hi everyone, I’m sure this one has been done before but would appreciate your views. We are really struggling to choose a name for our son who is due in a couple of months. My husband loves the name Reggie but we both think it might be one of those names best avoided as it’s just too much. Looking for unbiased opinion as canvassing family and friends’ opinions on baby names is definitely best avoided! Thanks x

Sorry I don't like it. For me, I don't like nickname-ey names and it just seems like an old man name that shouldn't be resurrected. Not my taste.

sue51 · 20/01/2019 20:34

I think it works for a child but Reggie as an adult doesn't sound right.

gentlyscented · 20/01/2019 20:38

I personally like it. Wanted it for both my girls if they were boys (obviously). However it's been quite popular here where I live, but I'd problem still use it it's a nice name that works for a baby and a grown man. Reginald is the proper name for it Reggie is just the shortened version. Would you put Reginald on the bc or not?

tammytoby · 20/01/2019 20:59

Awful! Reginald is bad but Reggie is the worse. Almost comical.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 20/01/2019 23:09

Reggie is awful. Please don't.

DramaAlpaca · 20/01/2019 23:10

I'm sorry, I think it's a horrible name.

OhTheRoses · 20/01/2019 23:10

And a brother called Ron.

GroggyLegs · 20/01/2019 23:15

It's too twee for me. Im not a fan of cute short versions.

Also there were two at swimming last week and both were badly behaved

If you like old man names, what about Stanley, Henry or Arthur?

SassitudeandSparkle · 20/01/2019 23:16

I know at least one young Reggie, but it is an old man name to me.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 20/01/2019 23:20

I know a couple of Reggies (and a couple of Ronnies) don't mind them.

Do you like Rex?

Ikeameatballs · 20/01/2019 23:20

I don’t like it. It’s not just the Kray brother links, I don’t like the name itself.

Other “old man” names:
Arthur
Stanley
Wilf
Albert
Freddie
Bertie
Vinnie

randomuserhere · 21/01/2019 06:22

Just reminds me of Reggie Reggie Sauce

ReaganSomerset · 21/01/2019 06:36

Kray twins. It's a no from me.

ArtisanPopcorn · 21/01/2019 07:01

Most of the names in the granny/grandad chic theme tend to sound fairly posh. This does not.

Sallygoroundthemoon · 21/01/2019 07:03

Please don't. It's a grim name.

Cariadxx · 21/01/2019 07:42

I'm not a fan. It just makes me think of the Kray twin who was pure evil

MarchInHappiness · 21/01/2019 08:08

Oh god no.

I have no idea why these type of nickname 'old man' names such as Reggie, Ronnie, Albie etc are rising in the charts so much.

At least the likes of Albert, Arthur, Sidney etc are proper names.

thirdtimelucky99 · 21/01/2019 08:22

Thanks everyone, I think you’ve largely confirmed our suspicions! We don’t like old man names generally so won’t be looking for an alternative.

I like Reggie :) It’s cute for a wee one and feels like a nice friendly guys name. I definitely don’t think it sounds too much.
