If I shorten my baby girl's name to Ru (not on bc but just day to day) will people just think of RuPaul? And if so, is it an ok association? I haven't seen the show so don't know.

You can use whatever nickname you like! Her real name is what matters. Never heard of that show.

I like the short form Ru. I have no idea who RuPaul is.

My baby boy's name is shortened to Ru sometimes and no one has made that connection (although I wouldn't mind if they did particularly). More people call him Ru Bear (like Pooh Bear) than RuPaul.

He's a baby, not a drag queen. Yours will (likely) be the same.

I know a Ruby who is known as Ru. Never made any other connection!

What or who is RuPaul?!! I think Ru is a very common nickname for Ruby, so I don't believe anyone would think anything of it

My immediate association was with the word rue. As in you will rue the day etc. RuPaul wouldn’t have done to mind in a million years.

When you said ru my initial thought was Ruben, not ruPaul!

And I do know who ruPaul is!

So glad to read this! We're considering Ruth for DD2 and the one thing putting DH off is that people will associate with RuPaul!

I've been hoping that a) people just will not think that with a baby, and b) it's a very current thing, so by the time DD is in school, growing up, it will be even less of an association.

My name is Ruth. It's never ever been shortened to Ru in 50 years. Wish it had though!

I know who Ru Paul is, but my first thought was the girl in The Hunger Games too. Not that there's anything wrong with either!
