Just call her Charlotte. Lottie for short.
You're not convinced about Lara. Take the easy route - if it's good enough for the Cambridges...

jq28 · 18/01/2019 16:25

Just to confuse you even more Lana is nice

MikeUniformMike · 18/01/2019 16:48

How about Lila?
It's difficult OP. You don't have to register a name immediately.
I just think you are not sure, so maybe you should leave it for a bit and see if a name comes to you. Maybe when you meet her.
Similar to Lana (v. nice) is Lona (rhymes with Rona), which is fairly unusual and pretty.
Lena is the name of Zara Phillips' new daughter and they say it to sound like Layna. It's pretty and would go well as a sibling name with Mila. Not keen on Lina. I still really like Lara and it's probably the one that will sound most elegant on an adult.

doritad · 18/01/2019 16:51

Not Lana it’s anal backwards 😂

WallisFrizz · 18/01/2019 16:54

Lara but if Mila is the name of your other dc then personally I feel that two —a ending names are a bit much.

LynetteScavo · 18/01/2019 17:48

Lara. It's a brilliant name, sadly it doesn't with our surname (not actually Scavo)

Inktank · 18/01/2019 17:52

Lena

Cbeebiesrehab · 18/01/2019 17:54

Lena!

GB54 · 18/01/2019 17:59

Lara

AlliKaneErikson · 18/01/2019 18:12

I’m going to stick to saying exactly the same as I have on all your other threads- Lara! My DD loves her name. I also like Mike’a suggestion of Lona (I know a lovely lady with that name).

Bananalanacake · 18/01/2019 18:14

Definitely Lana. Lena is everywhere in Germany.

Milasmummy · 18/01/2019 18:43

Unfortunately I had to register her. But we are unconvinced and want to change it. Mila is just my first daughter’s nickname!

Ah. You have called her Lara and you are not sure if you should change it. I was thinking when I replied give it a few months and Milasmum will be on here saying 'i want to change the name'.

It is not unusual to think you might have made a mistake.
Lara is a lovely name but you're not happy, so lets try to help you.
Are you a lone parent?

Milasmummy · 18/01/2019 19:09

To be honest my husband likes Lara but I’m not so convinced. But perhaps I will grow to love it. Lara just seems dated and “older woman” to me. Though people have said such beautiful things about the name on here. I just prefer to have longer elegant names. But can’t seem to find one that isn’t fraught with negatives. I should add that I’m english but my husband is Egyptian, so trying to find a name that combines both heritage’s, but also travels well. Unfortunately the Arabic language doesn’t have a Latinate base, so all the frilly elegant girls names are very limited.

Lara is very nice, and it does travel well. Much nicer than Lena/Lina.

MikeUniformMike · 18/01/2019 19:52

Ah, I get it now. I thought maybe you were not in the UK. Lara works. It's lovely, Looks nice in arabic. It's much nicer than the other names you suggested. My suggestion of Lona wouldn't work in Egypt.

A name I really like is Vanessa but it just isn't a baby name - the one I know was Nessie as a baby and Ness as a teenager. And I know a half-egyptian girl who's name is quite English, but her mum had a similar sounding sweet nn for her.

So, how about you think of what nn you could use.
Lally?
Bet she has a really nice-sounding Egyptian surname to go with her elegant first name.
Stop worrying. Lara is lovely.

Milasmummy · 19/01/2019 08:27

Thanks, I hope it will grow on me eventually 🙈

Lena or Lara

Frosty66611 · 19/01/2019 08:43

Lara is really nice

FaithInfinity · 19/01/2019 08:46

Lara is beautiful, timeless, classic. I love it.

GinUnicorn · 19/01/2019 08:50

Lara and Lena are both beautiful

SwedishEdith · 19/01/2019 14:16

Lara is lovely. I think Lina is pretty cool as well though. But maybe from Carolina?

Ihuntmonsters · 19/01/2019 17:50

I like Lina, but mainly because as a child I knew a very elegant Lina (from Carolina, but pronounced more like Lee- na as she was Spanish/Russian). Which made me think that perhaps you need to be a little more creative with diminutives for your new baby and consider extending her name rather than shortening it (like my grandfather who called my mum Clarabella even though my grandmother chose Clare specifically because it has no shortenings). When it comes to parents anything goes until children are old enough to object really! I still call my dd many variations of the first part of her name with other bits that just appeal to me at the time. In Russia Lara is used for the short form of Larissa, does that appeal to you? No need for a formal change on the birth certificate or to stop using Lara as well.

nocluenoidea · 19/01/2019 21:36

Lara is a lovely name, however if you're unsure what about Lila (pronounced lie-la)? Maybe that name would also work with your husbands heritage given it's an Arabic name
